The penguin, on the other hand, never expressed anything at all. It’s designed almost explicitly with purpose of not expressing anything. It’s practically featureless, with only the bare minimum of detail necessary to tell you it’s a penguin. It has a face, but it never uses it. It has no sclera, meaning it stares straight ahead at all times. It actively repels most attempts to ascribe any emotion to it – at best, you can feel that it is coldly satisfied, perhaps detachedly frustrated. I’d say it’s like a robot wearing the skin of an animal, but that’s literally the villain of A Close Shave, and he was pretty expressive.

Every year in early spring, Belgium welcomes the lovers of cabins of all kinds. The festival “Passion Robinson” brings together creators, architects, landscapers and all sorts of of alternative home enthusiasts. There are more than 40 exhibitors and various cabins.

This “floating boat” is affixed by cables to the accommodate shifts and movement of the trees.

beethoven’s waldstein sonata manuscript , 1804

A Beethoven biographer from the beginning of this century [c.1900] tells us that the Waldstein sonata “had at some time acquired the nickname ‘Horror,’ presumably because of the thrusting, agitated figuration and the surprising modulations of its opening which are apt to make one shudder.”

The author’s shudderings are based on a misunderstanding: the Waldstein Sonata is known in France as “L’aurore.”
