Your recent post about TnS have summed up how I’ve felt about them in the last few years too. I became a fan in the summer of 2013. And instantly became obsessed with them. Went back watched every video on YouTube of them I possibly could, bought merch, downloaded all their albums. When LY2D came along I didn’t really care for it. I felt like Tegans side of the album didn’t hit with me. Their styles got weird especially the mini bang era. Crybaby was a massive miss for me. You mentioned you didn’t feel like they’re trying that hard into what their doing and that album cemented that for me immediately. They had so much momentum. Hearttrob was a massive hit, winning big at the Juno’s, everything is awesome and the Oscar appearance, opening for Katy Perry. They had it all right there for them to fall off the way they have is puzzling. I listened to a Q&A that Tegan did on substack a while ago, and she mentioned how Hearttrob was a horrible time for both of them personally. She didn’t go into detail, but I know their aunt died, T and Lindsey broke up, the whole catfish situation and then being on the road over 300 days in 2013. I feel like maybe it severely burnt them out. The last couple years they’ve both made jokes about splitting up or doing other things. Sara said that they are working on new music and she’s got a whole new music studio now. But their passion just isn’t there the way it seems like it used to be. I’m sure they would probably be insulted to hear someone say that, but just judging by what they’ve been doing recently how could us fans not believe that at this point. I thought wiping their insta was maybe to announce something next year when there hiatus is over, but wiping their twitter is bizarre. Maybe it’s a political thing idk. Maybe they are completely rebranding. I wish them the best in whatever they’re doing tho. And hope to see them find success in music that they had now over a decade ago
