Loki’s colour isn’t green and gold, it’s purple. Throughout the Marvel films we see him surrounded in golds and clothed in green. And while these colours can definitely be associated with his earlier presentation, the Loki series as made it clear that the greens and golds are not actually his. Gold is the colour of Asgard. Gold is Thor’s hair, the royal palace, the throne. Gold is the scepter and the infinity gauntlet and the accents on the Chitauri armour. Gold is the many skins Loki assumes in situations designed to oppress him. Green is similar- Loki wears green as a child, when he finds out he’s adopted, when he see Thanos for the first time, when he tries to take Midgard at New York. Green surrounds him in the forest when he fights Iron Man, when he’s sent back to Asgard for imprisonment, during his stay on Sakaar. Green is manipulation, green is envy, green is being imprisoned by the situation you’re in. At the start of the Loki series, Loki is seen in the classic, textbook (or perhaps comic book) green and gold we all know and love. But as the show moves on, Loki is consistently showed in hues of blue and, especially, purple. He’s surrounded by purple for all of his major, Loki-defining decisions: On Lamentis with Sylvie, when talking with Sylvie in the no-mans-land at the end of time, when he’s planning and defeating Alioth, and in the domain of he who remains. Additionally, blue is seen in Sylvie’s apocalypse and when she burns the TVA agents on that farm somewhere. Green is Loki’s past, his persona, his trauma: Purple is his personality, his choice, his truth.
