Eleanor smiled and nodding in understanding as he talked about how he wanted to get watermelon. She watched with wonder as he took a bite of his own jellybean. She wondered what flavor he would get, especially since she’d been let off easy with such a normal taste. At the sound of him announcing it was minty toothpaste, she brought a palm to her mouth to stifle her laughter. “Yuck,” she remarked, sticking her tongue out playfully.
She grabbed another jellybean again since it was now her turn. She placed it on her tongue and waited to find out what she’d gotten. Suddenly her eyes widened and she choked down her jellybean, desperate to get the taste out of her mouth. “Gross!” she cried out with disgust. “I got… glue!”
Theodore hadn't noticed the way she watched him, because of course he was oblivious. He'd been too busy trying to wash out the taste of toothpaste with the cup of fresh water he'd had beside him. He knew they weren't supposed to have liquids in the library but he was never one for following such minor rules. It wasn't like he was clumsy anyway. He wouldn't knock it over.
Smiling smugly to himself as the taste finally went away, he turned to keep an eye on Eleanor as she tried another jellybean. He watched as her mask of composure slipped into pure disgust. As she shouted out the name of the flavor, he shuddered and wriggled his nose, "Ew! That's gross," he agreed with her, unable to stop himself from laughing a little. "I'm sorry," he added in hopes that it would make up for his unfair laughter.
Picking up another candy from the pile in his hand, he popped it in his mouth and crushed it with his teeth, waiting for the taste to explode. He made a noise of absolute discontent as it finally settled, "Ew! Disgusting -- I think.. I think this is what boogers are supposed to taste like." He shuddered and did his best to swallow the rest, "Two bad ones in a row! Dang it."
