Going for the Kill

“I totally agree. You’re bound to win best pumpkin. Should I fix the competition and stuff the tally box with your name?”

"If you are so sure I can win this, why would you want to stuff my name in the talky box? not sure sure I can win, so you want to cheat?"

“Corn? No, funnel cake is what you should really be craving.” She replied with a chuckle. “But, yeah, I’d appreciate help finding it.”

“I have to admit, I’m not a very big fan of funnel cake.” Theo replied, giving her a small nod. “Let’s just agree to find it and eat what we want.”

“No.” She snapped, turning to look at him with her eyes narrowed. “We don’t need to talk, not now, not ever. I’m here for Hugo, not you.”

“No, this is you not wanting to. But we have to, if not now, later. I don’t want to let this get between us.”

“I am not insinuating anything.” he shrugged. “If I wanted to say something, I would just be direct about it. I could do better than some of this for sure.”

“Well, we all know I’ve never really been artistic, it wouldn’t be a surprise you did better. Nor would I really be offended by that.”

“It does resemble your head.” She joked. 

“I’m not sure if you’re trying to insult my head or compliment my pumpkin.”

“I guess it’s not all so bad.” he mused. “I was merely making a general comment, not many people have done a good job around here.”

“Well, thank you. I appreciate this.” Theo said with a small grin. “So are you insinuating you could do better?”

“Why am I here again? There’s way too many people here…”

“Because we need to talk. And it seemed you weren’t going to talk to me in private.”

“Ooh, um… you see. About that- as much as I would really love to do all these autumn festivities, i have to go claw my own eyes out so I’m afraid I won’t be able to make it this year. Pity.”

“That is such a shame. So you’re going to miss on all the pumpkin carving for... such a reason? I honestly don’t get people who don’t like festivals.”

“Remind me why I thought it would be a good idea to come here on my day off?”

“Because those are fun. Just loosen up a bit and smile. It won’t kill you.”

“Excuse me, would you mind telling me where the food stand is? It’s not in the same spot it was in last year.”

“I was just wondering the same. I’ve been craving some corn but I can’t find any. Let’s tag along to find that food stand.”
