Stiles was busy wiping the tables in the coffee shop down and whistling to himself. It was the slow time of the day in which it sometimes got tiring to try and keep himself busy. Just as he finished wiping the last table, the door opened and someone stepped in. “I’ll be with you in one short moment!” Stiles yelled as he flung the towel over his shoulder and walked over to the counter. “How can I help you?”
the cold air outside definitely hinted at some sort of snow coming soon, that much finch was sure of. growing up in indiana, he learned how to be able to tell when a major winter storm was coming so him and kate could salt the driveway the day prior for their mom. sadly, finch didn’t have many driveways to salt in magnolia. but the cold was still taking its toll on him and he needed something warm before he headed back to his apartment. he entered the coffee shop in hopes of getting a hot chocolate, if they had it. he nodded as he heard the man speak and proceeded to wait at the counter until the man was finished. “ do you sell hot chocolates here?? “

when the girl smoke, finch glanced over at the person he’d pulled out of the building who was being treated by paramedics. just as he was about to speak to the girl, someone tried putting an oxygen mask over his face and he quickly shook it off. he could breathe on his own, he was fine. “ i mean, normally, i don’t go running into fires, but someone was stuck in there. i felt like i had to save him, “ he said, before the paramedic finally won him over after a bout of coughing and placed the oxygen mask over his face. the fresh air was a blessing for finch’s smoke-filled lungs.

If Allison hadn’t been on the phone to Scott when she saw the crowd gathering around the building and a figure that looked like him ran into the building, she would’ve probably fainted, or ran in after him. Nevertheless, after her last conversation with Finch she still felt sick, and she pushed through the crowd, reaching the front of it just as he emerged from the building, and collapsed.
“Find out if the ambulance is on it’s way!” Allison yelled at someone, before she turned back to Finch, trying to remember fire first aid from a class she’d taken probably a million years ago. Putting an arm around him, she tried to sit him up. “Come on, we need you to move further away from the fire, get you to some cleaner air. You’re an idiot, by the way.”
hearing allison’s voice, finch felt himself grin through all the coughing. of course, if there was anyone to show up right now, it would be her. his eyes still closed, he felt her arm slink around him and pull him into a sitting position. he groaned as she did so, as it strained his lungs even more than they already were. he scoffed as she called him an idiot, causing him to cough even harder than before. “ i did...just save someone’s life...but thanks, “ he said, letting allison pull him to his feet. “ i’m fine, anyway...just smoke inhalation. “

jughead hadn’t been paying attention. he doesn’t know what happened, he had gone inside the town hall to investigate strange occurrences that he’d read about in old town papers, a distraction from the murder novel he’s been writing. then, all of a sudden, there had been flames, & the building filling with smoke. oxygen was being choked out of his lungs, coughing painfully into his denim-covered shoulder. he weakly lifts his shirt collar to cover his nose.
frankly, he’s about to leave the hall with the rest of the crowd, but his leg is quickly stuck in between furniture, & he can’t help but think about how fucked up this all is. the smoke is stronger as he collapses, & he’s delirious in his pain as a guy whose name he can’t place ( his face is familiar, though, he thinks ) helps him up, even if his legs don’t feel like his own. when he’s finally outside with the other male, he lets himself all back to the ground, breathing in painfully. he snorts at the male’s words, regrets doing that because it makes the burn in his chest ache, before finally wheezing, ‘ wasn’t… burning… when i went… inside. ’
although finch is still coughing like crazy, he can’t help but laugh at the other boy’s comment. he figured it probably wasn’t meant to be funny, but that didn’t stop finch from cracking up, his laughter eventually turning into another bout of coughing followed by finch doubled over in pain. he could practically feel the smoke in his lungs, definitely a more burning feeling than having water there. “ all that matters is that you’re out now, dude. you’re welcome...by the way, “ he says as he pushes himself to his feet with a groan. once he’s stable on his own, he holds out his hand for the other boy.

shiro couldn’t even remember why he’d gone into the store - it wasn’t like they had anything he wanted. probably. but, he’d figured, a little browsing might not be a terrible idea to help pass the time. and maybe he’d find a souvenir to take home (if he ever went home). the building erupting in flames was far from part of his plan. inwardly, he was yelling at the shop owner for leaving an open flame unattended - or at least, that’s what the prince was assuming had happened. surrounded by smoke and flame, in a completely unfamiliar area, shiro was more than turned around, and when he felt someone pulling him away, and eventually clear of the building, he didn’t think much of it. “i was in there before the fire started,” he replied, too tired to be angry. “and i’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to go running into burning buildings at all, even with a mask.” he coughed, finding it hard to breathe for a moment. “thanks, though, man.”
though he was still coughing like crazy, finch managed to pull himself into a sitting position. he could hear the sirens far off in the distance, but by now the flame had pretty much engulfed most of the building. he tilted his head to look at the man who he had just saved and scrunched his nose at the man’s words. “ you’re welcome. and i don’t think you should really be scolding the guy who just saved your ass, man. you’d probably still be in there waiting for the stupid fire department had i not been here, “ he said, grabbing his flannel from the ground, knocking the soot off of it, just as the fire department pulled up. “ about fucking time, “ he mumbled to himself as he got to his feet and held his hand out for the other man.

the fire department was taking too long. at this point, the flames had already engulfed at least one room of the tiny office building. unwilling to wait any longer, finch took off the flannel shirt he was wearing and held it to his mouth as he went running into the building, screams following behind him, telling him to stop. he was immediately greeted with flames, but could make out the figure of the person who had gone into the building minutes before the fire started. helping the person to their feet, he guided them outside, just as the fire truck pulled up. coughing, finch and the person he had helped collapsed on the ground. he could hear people rushing towards them, but he didn’t dare open his eyes. instead, in between coughs, he tried to speak. “ don’t...run into a burning building...without a mask. “

“This–what is this?” He’s holding a multi-colored cone of a light blue and baby pink. The cream had just begun to melt and trickle down the waffle cone and onto his fingers. It was scrumptious to say the least, and something very otherworldly.
