I love her more than words can describe. Literally the best teacher/coach I’ve ever had!!
Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev
Said to be the best Ballet Partners in history of Ballet. Here they perform the Valse from Les Sylphides, to the music of Chopin.

Not to be confused with August Bournonville’s 1836 ballet La Sylphide!

Elena Evseeva
ELENA KITTEL TCHERNICHOVA
The great ballet mistress, Elena Tchernichova passed away in St. Petersburg, Russia this past February. She was a beloved member of The Nutmeg Ballet’s artistic staff from 1999-2003, teaching and staging classical repertoire. Dancers fortunate enough to have worked with Mme Tchernichova will remember her nurturing spirit as well as her unique insight into coaching and correcting.  The former Principal Ballet Mistress of American Ballet Theatre has been described by Vogue as “the most important behind-the-scenes force for change in ballet today.” Our most sincere condolences to her son, Alexei Tchernichov, a graduate of the Vaganova Choreographic Institute, who is The Nutmeg Ballet’s Senior Ballet Master and carries on Elena’s tradition of imparting a vast knowledge of classical ballet repertoire and history to our trainees.
We can't think of a more perfect setting than Jacob's Pillow to celebrate the first day of summer. Â The Nutmeg Ballet Conservatory wishes you a wonderful summer season!

'Swan Lake' is the most difficult thing to portray for a female ballet dancer; it really requires such specific qualities of articulation, agility, strength, and the arm work is something that takes a lot of training.
~Benjamin Millepied
“In classical pas de deux, the man controls everything. He picks up the girl. He puts her down. He turns her, takes her weight, stops her, and she must always go where he leads. The woman submits to all this completely. But her submission is not feeble. In fact, the only reason she can submit so utterly is because she is very strong in herself. In her center. She does not collapse, or cave, or stutter-step, or flop. No, she holds herself very consciously, very confidently. She is centered within her own weight. So the man always knows where she is. He can feel her. He can absorb her strength.”
