They flushed at the praise, face burning hot as they churned the words over in their head—thank God for their clown mask, they thought.
It always made their stomach twist with equal parts shame and guilt, being lauded for pushing themselves, for willingly participating in the non-stop barbarity. Part of them hated how susceptible they were to positive reinforcement, disgusted by their maddening need for approval, particularly from Dr. Easterman.
Restlessly, they bounced their leg in an unsteady cadence, hands idly fiddling with some loose stitching on their clothes.
“A-Ah, me? Well, I… I certainly try my best! That's all you can do in a place like this, right?”
In spite of their mask, they looked away, opting to focus on the tapping of their scuffed shoe against the linoleum.
At the mention of juice and cookies—sweet treats being a scarcity amongst Reagents—they visibly perked up, offering her two-second, non-committal glances before retreating again.
“Really? Oh, that'd be wonderful! Um, thank you, Nurse Barlow.”
[OOC: I hope you don't mind, but I thought I'd try my hand at a more “novel” style of writing!
Honestly, I’d started doing these asks here and there for a bit of silliness, but I've gone and gotten knee-deep in developing my Reagent OC.
All this to say, I really enjoy how you write our favourite Nurse, and you and some other talented folks have gone and gotten me addicted to these roleplays!
Always a delight to see you post, many thank-you’s ‘cause I'm having a blast! ^-^ ♡]
Emily smiled, letting out a quiet kind of soft laugh at the way you squirmed about. Watching keenly as one foot shifted to the other with light amusment that seemed to brighten her day "don't sell yourself short" she chimed, getting up from her seat to shuffle about the small office space. Picking up a pen to scribble something down, filing slips, looking throughout medicines, ect. Busy work that was more important to others then it was to her. Finally, after a few moments of silence, she turned back to the window. A small bottle of a few red circular pills in one hand and something wrapped in a few napkins. "Here you are dear" She nearly coo'ed, a tone softer then she ment it to be. Having to stand on her tip toes to lean through the hollow, she managed to set the items in your lap: presenting just a tad more effort to hand them to you rather then just setting them on the edge of her window for you to pick up. After closer examination, the items she handed you seemed to be painkillers and a small stack of chocolate chip cookies wrapped in a few napkins for safe keeping
