Duke Dumont has the perfect banger for a packed club or solo dance party at home (two viable options for a Friday night if you’re looking for plans). The British DJ/producer just released his latest single, “Ocean Drive,” and it’s the musical equivalent to a car ride during a warm summer night. The 80s-sounding slow-burner features an unidentified male singer providing some smooth vocals to complement the chill, synth-heavy tune.

“Some people want me to be heads or tails/I say no way”. So opens the infectiously hip-gyrating ‘You Know You Like It’, a fine example of Aluna Francis’ saccharine vocals and the excellently warped technical stylings of producer George Reid. They’re everywhere. They’re on the overtly pop-sounding ‘Just A Touch’, which packs big sounds alongside infectious vocals and teeters into cheese. And on ‘Put Up Your Hands,’ which muses about romantic submission: “Baby you lost the fight/Just put up your hands”. Its lo-fi pauses and claps make it the closest to melancholic that the album gets. It’s sensual. The first glitchy music released this year that you could happily have sex to.

Ministry of Sound gets it. Earlier this year, they put out Mat Zo & Porter Robinson's "Easy," and made sure to get Andy C to put a proper dancefloor dnb spin on it. We recently fell in love with Mike Mago's "The Show,"

Hot Since 82’s Knee Deep In Sound releases Mihalis Safras’ ‘Barrage’ EP, backed with remixes from Russ Yallop and Secondcity. Greek producer Mihalis Safras has a long standing in underground Tech House music with releases on VIVa, Saved, Suara, and of course his own Material imprint. Here we see Mihalis join up with Knee Deep In Sound, putting him alongside Noir, Mendo, Steve Lawler and Detlef on the roster. Title-track ‘Barrage’ kicks off the package and in typical fashion he delivers a percussive fuelled, infectious groove with crunchy 4/4 rhythms, vacillating vocal murmurs and a bulbous sub bass hook. The second original from Mihalis entitled ‘Save Me’ follows and ups the energy levels with raw distorted drums, a hooky stab led bass line and diva style vocal licks. The first of two remixes comes from Hot Creations artist Russ Yallop who reshapes ‘Save Me’ into a low-slung, bumpy house cut with shuffling snares, stuttering vocal chops and penetrating sub bass drones. Defected artist Secondcity then delivers his take on ‘Barrage’ with a more direct house focus, layering looped guitar noodles and an unfaltering bass hook with an upfront rhythmic swing.

French DJ/producer Tchami has carved out a distinct identity for himself at the front of the recent Future House movement with a series of banging mixes and originals. Now, he’s revisiting one of his first singles with a rework of “Promesses” via Ministry of Sound.
Originally released on Fool’s Gold in 2013, “Promesses” has been remixed by Tchami into a more straightforward, radio-friendly form. Kaleem Taylor lays down a soulful vocal take over subdued electro slings complete with thick basslines and a polished groove. It’s a certified afterhours thumper, with an endlessly danceable edge that’s worth another listen even to those familiar with its original release.

Late last year, underground favourite Route 94 delighted the house circuit with his remix of MK’s iconic record, ‘Always’ featuring Alana. With nostalgic integrity and a nod towards today’s house sound, Route 94’s joyous grooves, his remodel resulted in a whole new remix package of its own, including a brand new MK version of the much loved song.
