Farewell from TheNewArtemis.com!
You may have noticed that things have been a bit slow around here for a while, and believe us when we say this was not an easy decision, but we founders have decided to close The New Artemis. When Andrew and I started this website three years ago, there were few everyday carry/adventure websites on the web that suited our tastes and interests. That has since changed, and there is now no shortageâŚ

I'd like to learn more about preparedness and the homestead type activities you mentioned in one of your blog posts, but I always end up running into anti-government fear mongering. Any ideas on where to get info without a political slant?
Hey there! Boy, do I relate to your message haha! I too have found it hard to wade through a lot of the more, um, alarmist prepper resources. I guess that comes with the territory of liking everyday carry/ham radio/homesteadingâŚ
Iâm assuming youâre referring to this post:Â http://thenewartemis.com/2015/07/05/3-urban-homesteading-blogs-for-newbies/
I follow a lot of gardening/food blogs rather than âprepperâ blogs, where there tends to be crossover with homesteading. There are a lot of good resources on Pinterest (if youâre on there, Iâd be happy to share some Pins with you).Â
Honestly, though, a lot of my best homesteading knowledge comes from people within my community â many of my friends are gardeners, home brewers, beekeepers, farmers, etc. I also went through the Community Emergency Response Team program to become certified in emergency response, so I learned a lot about prepping for emergencies through that. You might consider joining a local homesteading group, or even participating in a local urban farm, depending on where youâre located.
If you have more questions about specific aspects of prepping and homesteading, please let me know and I can share some resources that I like! Or, if you have recommendations for anything we can cover on the blog, let me know. I try to stay far away from fear mongering and more in the realm of useful everyday skills. :)
(Iâm also a huge fan and avid reader of @biodiverseed here on Tumblr, btw.)
@clayweeks, as someone who actively decided to leave the blogging community (At the height of my relevance, too) because of the increasing militancy and general lunacy in the âprepper communityâ I can offer you a few tips on sites to find thatâll be more agreeable and informative.
If itâs got anything to do with the end of the world, zombies or general doom and gloom about anything economic? Avoid it. If itâs people who actively spend time outdoors and relay their experiences? Read it. If itâs people who practice traditional skills, which is covered under the umbrella term of âbushcraftâ then itâs always a must read. Old skills are the best skills. Reach out to people whoâve had real life experiences with situations that either ended well or poorly because of a lack of preparedness. Niche websites thatâre all about gardening or canning are always great. My mentor in recent years shifted his own blogging to be dedicated to Wild Edible teaching and itâs great.
Feel free to shoot me a private message and I can give you a run down of a few sites that Iâve personally used for nearly a decade now. Political slant free, too.
For research based information on sustainable gardening, farming, livestock, canning and food preservation checkout your local county extension office. Many of not most offer programs such as Master Gardener or Master Food Preserver.
Thanks for the info! đ

Hi.
I just went on vacation to Indonesia and took some photography gear with me in my GR0. I made a video about exactly that loadout.Â
Maybe that is something you might like to share on your blog. Love the blog by the way.
Cheers,
Bo
Artemis: This is awesome! Love the video and the gear! Thanks for sharing!
I still have a couple hatchets left in stock on the site, including this guy(www.hvrnt.com). Check âem out before theyâre gone!
