Hey there! Boy, do I relate to your message haha! I too have found it hard to wade through a lot of the more, um, alarmist prepper resources. I guess that comes with the territory of liking everyday carry/ham radio/homesteading…

I follow a lot of gardening/food blogs rather than “prepper” blogs, where there tends to be crossover with homesteading. There are a lot of good resources on Pinterest (if you’re on there, I’d be happy to share some Pins with you). 

Honestly, though, a lot of my best homesteading knowledge comes from people within my community – many of my friends are gardeners, home brewers, beekeepers, farmers, etc. I also went through the Community Emergency Response Team program to become certified in emergency response, so I learned a lot about prepping for emergencies through that. You might consider joining a local homesteading group, or even participating in a local urban farm, depending on where you’re located.

If you have more questions about specific aspects of prepping and homesteading, please let me know and I can share some resources that I like! Or, if you have recommendations for anything we can cover on the blog, let me know. I try to stay far away from fear mongering and more in the realm of useful everyday skills. :)

If it’s got anything to do with the end of the world, zombies or general doom and gloom about anything economic? Avoid it. If it’s people who actively spend time outdoors and relay their experiences? Read it. If it’s people who practice traditional skills, which is covered under the umbrella term of “bushcraft” then it’s always a must read. Old skills are the best skills. Reach out to people who’ve had real life experiences with situations that either ended well or poorly because of a lack of preparedness. Niche websites that’re all about gardening or canning are always great. My mentor in recent years shifted his own blogging to be dedicated to Wild Edible teaching and it’s great.
