It's a song about loving your daughter and they made a straight male pedophile sing it. It's a song about finding joy and happiness in a marginalized community and they made an anti black edgelord sing it. They took every opportunity to deface this song within plausible deniability. They butchered a song by a black man and released the episode on juneteenth. They mocked police brutality towards pocs in their advertisements.
The reach tadc has is insane. This song is largely known for the version covered by jobby and recontextualized to honor an adult misogynistic queerphobic character. You should be disgusted. This should should be your wake up call. If you still give glitch and goose the benefit of the doubt, you're either in denial or you're okay with giving this song's legacy to racist pedophiles.

I remember one time I was doing an ADHD evaluation with a kid who had asked to go to the bathroom like 3 times during the 30-ish minute part of the interview where we asked his mom questions, so I knew that was his go-to excuse when bored. We get started on the WISC-V after the interview and within 30 seconds of vocab starting he asks if he can go to the bathroom, and I say:
“No.”
And this kid rolls his eyes because DUH and he says “Why not?” all cranky-styles, so I said
“Because you don’t need to go to the bathroom, you’re bored and you need to move. If you need to move, tell me and I’ll let you know if we’re at a part of the test where we can pause. Like, for example, we can pause right now if you wanna race me around the building.”
And this kids face fucken LIT up. We did three laps around the outside of the building and came back in and he finished like 3 subtests and asked if he could move so we got up and tried to see how high we could jump for 3 minutes and the finished the rest of the assessment with one bathroom break. And that was all it took tbh, this kid was SO capable he just needed to move and hadn’t been allowed to do so before. I also like making people mad by pointing out that I know what they’re up to, then just giving them permission to do the thing they were sneakily trying to do in the first place. It’s like being affectionately annoying and it’s part of how I connect to others.
People talking abt autism like its a set of quirky silly traits and not an often debilitating neurological disorder genuinely drives me up a wall, especially as someone who's support needs are higher.

Are you gonna be patient with them when they're using AAC? Will you comfort them through meltdowns? Or do you just want a gf who talks to you about dinosaurs and has a cute "neurodivergent aesthetic"?
The minimization of autistic struggles to just "socially awkward sometimes" ends up making higher support needs autistics feel real isolated, because it's obvious that when you romanticize neurodivergence, you're not talking about us.
everything i learn about tadc makes me hate it more. why did the incredibly abusive and misogynistic character get a montage with a song about a black man's baby daughter?? jax isn't lovely??? she sucks ??? was a massive part of gangle's character not living in constant fear of jax's abuse or is that just excused??
here’s the thing: i think mini-series or shows with a limited number of episodes CAN be done effectively if you map it out beforehand.
if you want the show to have lore and character arcs but also wrap it up in ten episodes, you have to be mindful of what you use all the screentime for. that doesn’t mean you can’t have any filler at all, it just means you have to either limit the amount of filler or just extend the show.
OTGW does this masterfully within just 10 episodes. it knows how to balance filler and fun while also expanding on the lore in each episode. and the character developments, while not super complicated or extreme, were satisfactory.
Wirt is the only character that gets proper development but it doesn’t feel like they’re taking away the spotlight from other characters to do so. Greg is a little kid so he doesn’t really have much development but he still gets to actually do stuff. Beatrice’s arc is also actually pretty good, going from using the two boys as a pawn to actually caring about them and helping them escape.
and while some things were left to interpretation, the main plot points were wrapped up pretty well. the things that were left to interpretation was the overall nature of the Unknown, the Beast, the people living there, etc.
but even then, there's enough context clues to piece together some of these things. for example, we can conclude that the Unknown is some kind of afterlife, on account of Quincy Endicott being buried in the local graveyard and also the fact that Wirt and Greg nearly died.
Infinity Train also does this really well. we get more lore about the train throughout the show but the character arcs are limited to one season, since each season has a different cast of characters.
Infinity Train is a character-focused show so it gives more attention to the characters, their dynamics and development while dropping nuggets of information about the train in the background.
it's clear that so many of these other miniseries that fail (TADC, Arcane) did not plan out their plot well enough. Arcane had potential and did very well in the first season but then dropped the ball in the second one. both these shows cram in so much lore and subplots that they have only two options: either they stuff every episode in with a thousand different plots (Arcane) or they drop everything entirely to focus on one character (TADC).
EVEN IF Jax was planned to be the main character from the very start, even if she was the ONLY main character and Pomni was just a secondary character, it's still bad writing to JUST focus on the main character and no one else.
imagine if ATLA was just about Aang and none of the other characters had any development.
imagine if Gravity Falls was just about Dipper or Mabel, and we never learn anything about Stan or Ford or Soos.
if the only character that gets any depth or attention is the main character, that's a bad story. ESPECIALLY for a show/series. it might make more sense for a movie to focus mostly on one character, but for a show with a wide cast of characters, there's no justification as to why every other character was overshadowed by Jax.

It's honestly kinda infuriating how when someone who never watched tadc and is outside of the fandom asks about the discourse and people respond with "people are just mad that Jax is trans and an asshole", cause like. Chat, the racism. Chat, the bad writing. Chat, the numerous amount of bigotry woven within the writing.
It just feels like a gross oversimplification of things
I feel like im going insane. People aren't complaining about TADC's use of "isn't she lovely" JUST because its taking a black man's song out of context. There's the added layer of some of the cast + gooseworx herself being racist/having a racist history.
Like are we deadass??? We're okay with racists using black people's art?? We're okay with racists changing the original context of the song?? We're all okay with racists taking a black mans song out of context on juneteenth?!?!?!?
