[Opening night. Ben sits up in the rafters just moments before the show begins, whispering a sort of litany to himself. His personal little superstition to ensure a good show. On his belt he keeps a pair of scissors. There was too much of a risk not to have something to cut the threads should they show. There was too much depending on him for something to go wrong tonight. The curtain began to rise and the lights began to dim. He gave one last nod back to Stella and the crew, double checked that his harness was secure, and got in position for the first scene. He smiled to himself. This was the feeling he always chased when preparing for a show. The excitement of so much work coming to fruition. Finally.]

[ Oh, poor, pitiful puppet. Thinking everything was under control. It wouldn't do to spoil the play in its first act, no, how uncivil! The grand finale was far more suited to the role. The Web was good at waiting, after all. ]
[The first act went absolutely perfectly. Every cue hit just when it needed to be, not a single mic malfunction or fallen gobo to be had. Every so often when there was a free moment he would check on Stella. She hadn’t mentioned if her moms would be in the audience, but he hoped to see them after the show. She was doing such a wonderful job. From his place near the projector he could see Ray and Ollie. He made sure to check to see if there was any camera trouble and see if Ray had noticed the things Ben had added just for him. Everything was going perfectly. But he could feel the dread settling in slowly. Something always went wrong on opening night. Always. He just had to wait for it. In the meantime, between acts he cleared a few spider webs from the rafters and waited for his next cue as the show began again]
[ The rafter felt... off. Almost. Out of view Stella was fiddling with something and panicking because it had gotten stuck. Ben didn't notice her desperately attempting to wave him over without making noises, no, he was too focused on making sure just about everything else went right. He didn't notice as he shifted his weight, and he certainly didn't notice when there started a small, persistent- ]
[ Creaaaakkkkkk... ]
[He kept his gaze on the stage. Pepper’s Ghost. This part had to go right. The fog, the chill, even the silence of the theater that made everything feel so lonely as the ghost paced around the stage calling out for people that were not there and to an audience that did not answer. There was a single, heart-shattering wail and the ghost disappeared. He quickly shut off the projector and flipped down his mic]
Excellent work Micah. Just brilliant. Keep up this energy and drinks are on me.
[He begins to move to check on the small drops silver fulminate that hung above the stage. He had to get across the theater within thirty seconds, and he had his timing down to a T]
[ Unfortunately and completely unintentionally, the creaking turned out to be something more structure related- his harness caught on some old board that was god knew how old suddenly, almost yanking Ben straight backwards ]
Ah-!
[He swung out into the open air, quickly covering his mouth so he didn’t make noise. He tried to reach for one of the rafters to catch himself on, but the cable attached to his harness wouldn’t budge from the board. He began to panic slightly. He knew he wouldn’t fall, but he couldn’t move. He looked back, trying to find some way to signal Stella, but he couldn’t see her through the rafters. There was no time to call Ernie to get him unstuck. He would have to wait until the show ended. That was fine, it was nearly over. But his cue was now! In a moment of panic he swung himself forward and kicked the lever to release the silver fulminate. It hit the stage, right on cue. When he his momentum carried him back, he tried to reach for another rafter. Possibly so he could get himself unstuck. Instead, the harness slipped. Tightening around his neck and chest. He scrambled for the straps to loosen it, but they wouldn’t budge]
[oh no. oh no no no no no not good not good!!!]
[He couldn’t reach up to get to his headset and call for someone to help. He couldn’t see Stella. And he was beginning to run out of air]
[ The others has already been dealt with, either distracted, incapacitated or woefully ignorant. What, did you think the Web was a poor planner? Did you think you could escape this? Change anything? They always did, the cocky ones. And surprise, surprise, they always ended up losing. ]

Oh thank gosh, I've found another servant of the Mother! For a moment, I truly thought a Lonely Avatar cursed me.
Oh, hello dearest! I'm afraid I'm no servant, but I'm glad to see another spider. Little as you are!
oi. look at this thing *yeets @devils-of-stardust at you*
Oh. Hello there, my dearest little one! :::}
What— What are you?
An old friend, you could say. How have you been, Jon?
I’m not—I don’t know you—
Oh, but you do. Can't you remember, dear? Oh well. No use. You know the park you've been putting off visiting? You should go sometime.
Why…?
I think you'll find something there that'll help!
I still don’t know why I should listen to you.
Oh, you don't have to! It'll just be better for you if you do. Don't worry, you still have the choice whether to go or not.
You’re… weird.
I would say "I know" but then I'd just be stealing lines.
From what? What are you even talking about?
Oh, Jonathan, there's so much you still don't know. Well, talk to you soon. I think anything more would spoil the surprise!
What surprise? I don’t— what?
[ A shit ton of spiders proceed to scuttle past Jonathan, away to somewhere else ]

Ooh, now here's an interesting one!
@themotherofpuppets
Hello, I have a package to drop off. Hope you ordered something.
Ordered something? No, no darling, I'm only here to check up on you!
Where are you coming from? I can't see anyone. Are you talking from a floor up maybe?
Whatever interpretation you prefer. In the end it doesn't matter.
What does matter to you then? I need to get this package to someone. They always know if I don't.
Oh, that's terrible, isn't it? Not being in control? You poor thing.
I'll just have to find a way to get control back. Somehow. There's always a way.
[He wasn't even that opposed to the job, beyond the punishments if he messed up. He just didn't like knowing he couldn't choose to stop]
Oh, but there is! Have you heard of Chetham’s Library? I think it would do you well to pay it a visit. They have some great stuff
I suppose I don't mind paying libraries a visit. What sort of things have you found there?
That's rather institution based. But I know you'll find just what you need.
Well it's difficult to plan if I don't have all the information first.
Oh, come on, where's your adventuring spirit? Trust your gut! If nothing else you'll just have a nice little look around the library.
Of course, that's why I'm going to go, but it's a bit different when someone else is directing me there.
[because he wasn't the one in control]
Because what if, for example, it's a trap? Many things could go wrong.
A library? A trap? Doesn't that sound a little ridiculous, even to you? Well, do what you want, it's not important to me what happens to you.
Yes, I'll go. Can't hurt too much. I've been trying to refrain from asking, common politeness when you wander like I do, but who are you?
Oh, honestly, you lot have given me many names! But I'd best be off now. See you, 'wanderer'.
