*Have a blessed Anant Chaturdashi* Once, there lived a Brahmin called Sumant. He had a daughter named Sushila who was married to a sage named Kaundinya. One day, while Sushila and Kaundinya were travelling, they stopped by a river as Kaundinya wanted to take bath. Sushila noticed a few women praying on the bank of the river. Out of curiosity, she asked them what they were doing. The women told her that they were worshipping Anant (Lord Vishnu). They also told her about Anant's vow and explained its importance. They told her about the preparation of fried gharga made of flour and a special food called anarase, half of which is given to Brahmins. They also told her about worshipping a hooded snake made of darbha grass placed in a bamboo basket to which food is offered. A silk string is kept before the god and later tied to the wrist. This string called ""Anant"" has 14 knots and is coloured with kumkum. Women tie this string on their left hand while men tie it on their right. The vow is observed for 14 years with the purpose of obtaining divinity and wealth. After listening to the importance of the vow, Sushila decided to follow it. From that day on, Sushila and Kaundinya began to prosper. One day, Kaundinya noticed the string on Sushila's left hand and asked the reason for it. After listening to the story of the Anant vow, he got annoyed and claimed that they had become rich not because of the power of Anant but because of the wisdom he had. The indignant Kaundinya then threw the Anant string into the fire. After this, Sushila and Kaundinya began to face extreme poverty. He understood that it was the punishment for dishonouring Anant, and decided to undergo penance until God himself appeared to him. Kaundinya went into the forest and asked everyone about Anant but in vain. Kaundinya gave up hopes and as soon as he chose to die, an old Brahmin appeared in front of him. He stopped Kaundinya from dying and led him into a cave. To his surprise, they reached a huge palace in a flash of bright light. As the Brahmin walked towards the throne, Kaundinya saw Lord Vishnu in his place. He realised that he had been saved by Lord Vishnu – the eternal one. ☺#MIC✔ツ (at Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2TVY0pl4wKlPFAp7KVY6JSyHcT1NgIftI9NRU0/?igshid=1t9jqegp09ig5

*Have a blessed Parivarthini Ekadashi* Today, 9th September 2019, Monday, which coincides with Bhadrapada Shukla Yekadashi named as Parsva Yekadashi, is very auspicious for the worship of Lord Vamana, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, as a dwarf Vatu. As per the scriptures, Parsva Yekadashi is also known as Parivartini Yekadashi because it occurs during the Chaturmas, when Lord Vishnu is believed to be resting. On this particular day, Lord Vishnu changes the side from left to right and therefore it is called as Parivartini, which means, in Sanskrit, shifting or changing over. Lord Krishna explains to Yudhishthira the story of the incarnation of Lord Vishnu as Lord Vamana. In Sanskrit, Vamana means dwarf and Sri Vamana is also known as Sri Trivikrama, which means one who conquered the three worlds of Earth, Heaven and the Nether world. Mahabali, the great grandson of Hiranyakashipu and grandson of Prahlada, was a very powerful Asura King, who had adopted both military expeditions to conquer and confiscate kingdoms and the spiritual means of performing sacrifices. His ulterior motto was to topple Indra and occupy the throne of the Heavens himself. Besides following such paradoxical ways to usurp the throne of Lord Indra, Mahabali was also very cruel and merciless towards the virtuous, spirituous and righteous people. The deities, including Lord Indra, became of the pranks of Mahabali and wanted to somehow prevent him from achieving his goal. Along with Lord Brahma, all the deities met Lord Vishnu and explained to Him the designs of Mahabali and appealed to the Lord to save the Universe from falling a prey into the hands of Mahabali. At the behest of the deities, Lord Vishnu descended on Earth in the form of a dwarf mendicant called Vamana. He went to Mahabali, when the emperor was performing Ashwamedha Yaga. It is mandatory, according to Scriptures, that anyone performing sacrifice should donate liberally to Brahmins to propitiate Lord Vishnu. Sri Vamana went to Mahabali at that moment and on being insisted by the king, the dwarf bachelor called Vatu in Sanskrit, asked Bali to just provide him with three feet space or land. ☺#MIC✔ツ (at Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2LiHhtl7wt885W1BC6GSQX2xE8VURWem9Q19I0/?igshid=gqsgkhhoywcf

*Happy Skanda Shashti* It is the auspicious Wednesday, 4th September 2019 today, which coincides with Shravana Krishna Shashti. It is auspicious to observe the Skanda Shashti Vrat. After Goddess Sati, consort of Lord Shiva, sacrificed her life in protest against the insult and abuse meted out by her father Daksha Prajapati to her husband, she took another birth as the daughter of Mount Himalaya, named Parvati. She impressed Lord Shiva with her long penance and got married with him. From the reunion of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, a fire ball was created, the heat of which could not be borne by Lord Agni himself. The fireball was then immersed in Ganga River, who too could not bear the heat. She transferred it into a pond, where Goddess Parvati tried to hold it. From that ball emerged a baby boy with six faces and that is why he is called Shanmukha. The birth of Shanmukha was necessitated by the fact that a demon called Tarakasura demanded a boon from Lord Brahma that he be killed only by a son of Lord Shiva because at that moment, Sati had sacrificed her life and Shiva was in deep penance. Tarakasura that Shiva had turned into an ascetic and therefore there was no possibility of Shiva begetting a son. After the birth of Shanmukha, six female deities called Krittikas fed the baby with the milk. This is the reason Lord Kartikeya came to be known as Shanmukha, where Shat means six and Mukha means faces. ☺#MIC✔ツ https://www.instagram.com/p/B1-kXkqFwcUHU4aUlhQBhGOt66juP2wqMSFEeY0/?igshid=1x75ybb22dumh
*Have a blessed Rishi Panchami* Bhadrapada Shukla Panchami, which is occurring today on 3rd September 2019, Tuesday, is observed by married women as Rishi Panchami to propitiate Sapta Rishis and get themselves of the Rijuswala Dosha. Accroding to a legend that has come down in the form of a narration by Lord Brahma to Sage Narada, once there lived a Brahmin couple, along with their daughter, who was a widow. One night, when the daughter was asleep, she was attacked by ants. On hearing her screams, father Utthanka came to know what was amiss. He was surprised to see that his daughter had been fully covered with ants. He immediately consulted a sage, who was very knowledgeable and was endowed with the Trikala Jnana or the knowleddge of present, past and future. The sage, after learning it from his divine and mystic powers, said that the reason was connected with the previous birth of the daughter of Utthanka. The sage said that during her previous birth, the woman had entered the kitchen during her menstrual periods. The sage also suggested that the Rijuswala Dosha, which was actually affecting her present birth, could be overcome by observing the Rishi Panchami Vrat. The daughter promptly observed the Vrat with devotion as well as dedication and was since relieved of the Dosha. Ever since that incident, a majority of women began observing Rishi Panchami Vrat. ☺#MIC✔ツ (at Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh) https://www.instagram.com/p/B18xRfmFxmaFilp2buVd-vZQ78NL03fXLrMulU0/?igshid=13wmz3afmg4au
