Hello! Took a break from my in-progress time punch quilt to update my shop with some fiber work, paintings, and drawings
I’ve been stewing since July 4th thinking about all of the people being abused in “detention centers” (concentration camps) across the United States. I don’t have much money to give to the cause so in the interest of the immigrants unjustly imprisoned in these camps, for the month of July I’ll be donating 50% of all my shop sales to Freedom for Immigrants, a California based non-profit advocating for immigrant justice through bail assistance, legal representation and policy reform.
I did a lot of research on different organizations and chose Freedom for Immigrants because it is based in California, which boasts the 2nd highest number of detention centers (120, Jesus). Texas comes in first place at 184.
Another important factor when choosing an organization to donate to was the open acknowledgement of the imperialist, colonial, and white supremacist roots of anti-immigration legislation. Freedom for Immigrants does that.
I hope you can find something in my shop you like, I have stuff in all different price ranges. If you’re not interested in anything I’m selling, I would urge you to donate to Freedom for Immigrants or another immigrant-advocacy group of your choice. Borders are illusory but the violence immigrants are experiencing in these camps is very, very real
