Mad God is wild. Intricately crafted film designed to be so deeply unappealing that I'd struggle to recommend it to anybody. I think everyone should try to watch it, and I know most people would hate it. There's almost no intelligible dialogue, you're put into a position where you have to glean what the characters are thinking and feeling based on their actiond and body language. The world isn't meant to make literal sense. You spend most of your time descending through what can only be described as hell. It messes with your sense of scale. Miniature puppets become life-sized torture victims become conduits through which we watch a whole other journey, and just when you forget the context of what you're seeing, you're pulled right back out with no idea how the second journey ends. Bizarre events contextualized through their effects, surreal torture scenes and pleasure as both dominance and refuge. Cycles of birth, death, creation, and violence. Unforgettable. Almost makes me want to make a Letterboxd account.

What a very funny joke that definitely did not happen because Nintendo definitely did not buy up almost a third of the shares of the top five TV manufacturers in the time between the announcement and release of the Wii, shares which definitely didn't skyrocket in value over the next two years due to an increase in flatscreen sales, nearly half of which independent analysts attributed to people replacing damaged TVs with newer, more expensive models from electronics stores that relied on high-pressure sales tactics to upsell people and get them to buy more expensive models on credit which they couldn't actually afford.
