A Beautiful Indifference | Ash and Isabelle
It was one of those nights. You know the kind. When the weather seems to be telling everyone that summer was over and people needed to get over it. That late-August through mid-September sort of weather. When it’s warm but you feel it threatening to thrust that god-awful October chill through your bones.
Those were the favorite writing nights of Ashton Clarke. Unfortunately, one of his guitar strings had broken earlier that evening, so he was stuck without his guitar and no replacement strings. But that was alright. He needed something to eat, and he didn’t want to go to the store just yet. So he decided he might as well head down to the little diner just a couple of streets over.
Upon entering the diner, Ash immediately felt welcome and comforted. The atmosphere wasn’t really something most people would be comforted by, but Ash liked it there. It was simple. Not busy. Not popular. Hell, the food wasn’t even the best. Yet he still loved coming here. He sat himself down in a booth, waiting patiently to be helped.
Even though the weather outside was fairly chilly at this point (for which Isabelle was thankful for, since she couldn't handle the heat very well) the break room was disgustingly warm, and the fan had broken down, two weeks back during an August heat wave. As Isabelle dropped her back in one of the two lockers and pulled out her little black apron, she sighed, hoping that she could skip her break and leave early instead.
Of course there was someone already in her section when she stepped out onto the main floor. That worsened her already bad mood--one that had been brought on by the shitty break room, and her roommate forgetting to pay the utilities bill, and therefore causing the water to turn off in the middle of the day.
So it was with another sigh that Isabelle walked over to the table, flipping over her notepad, not really making eye contact with the person in the booth as she did so. "My name's Isabelle," she intoned, "I'll be your waitress this evening. Can I get you anything to drink?"

Will: YOU KNOW I NEVER WANTED TO HURT YOU Will: yeah that was good i felt that Will: ok give me ur T necklace and run across the bridge
Kennedy: *gives you my T necklace* Kennedy: *runs across bridge and into mom's van* Kennedy: *cries*
Madison shook her head. “Never mind.” She turned off the song and put her iPod away. “So what do you want to talk about?”
Beth gave the other girl a shrug as she looked over. "I don't know," she said. "I don't really care, I guess."

"I just hope that you're right."

“Okay,” Will smiled, nodding a few times. This felt like a movie to him. Here he was, dropping a girl he had a huge crush on at her house. And she was really pretty and it’s not even like they spoke that much before tonight and she was nice to him and it was weird and he hadn’t really expected it and he was more than okay with it. If he was honest, just being friends with her was nice. Were they even friends? They had spent the night talking and laughing together, hardly even doing work.
"Bye," Kennedy said with a smile back at him as she got out of his car. "Thanks again for the ride. I'll see you in school tomorrow." And without another thought she closed the car door shut, walking up the front porch steps and into her house, immediately looking for her grandmother so she could tell her about her day--and about the boy that she had just spent the afternoon with. There was something about Will. And she wasn't sure what. But she knew her grandmother would know.
Will turned once he threw his contacts away, his blurry vision needing to adjust in the darkness. He ran into the bed, collapsing onto it with a satisfied sigh, laying on his stomach for a few moments. He was half trying not to fall asleep and half thinking about Kennedy’s response. “Sorry, I can’t do this anymore,” he told her, rolling onto his back and unbuttoning his jeans, pulling them off at the ankles and crawling back to get under the covers once again. “Kay, now I’m comfortable in all senses of the word and can focus,” he said softly, turning and blinking at Kennedy.
Taking a deep breath, Will inched a bit closer to her, leaning back against the headboard. “You can stay here, if you want. I’ll stay up and we can talk. Talk about whatever you want. We can talk about our favorite time periods of history or 90’s pop or the best places to get pizza or anything. If you want me to leave, I’ll leave, and if you want me to stay, I’ll stay.” He blinked a few times at her, as if everything he just said was something that everyone would do—like it was the common thing to do.
Mouth hanging open like a fish, Kennedy stared at Will as he told her that he couldn't do this anymore--what exactly did that mean? She had a moment of panic, wondering if she really was going to have to go call Marie from the bathroom. And then he simply took off his jeans. She met his gaze and closed her mouth, realizing that that was probably a good idea. She was wearing a dress, and didn't feel like shedding it in exchange for pajamas, so she simply crawled back under the covers, inching closer to Will before resting her head on his shoulder, hoping that he'd put her arm around her.
"Stay," she said, exhaling in one even breath, her chest feeling like she could breathe again, slowly uncoiling the tightness that was in her chest. She could feel her body start to relax at the physical contact, and she closed her eyes briefly, trying to shut everything that wasn't related to this present moment out. "Just talk about something," she said weakly. "I don't know what, just talk please."
honestly i don't have an attention span tonight i'm sorry

"That’s debatable."
"Well, now I'm hurt."
"Always has been, always will be. You’re so high-maintenance."
"But you love me anyways."
"Uh-huh. Whatever you say."
"We both know that it is whatever I say."
"I don't even think I can read this..."
"No, it doesn’t, Megan. It really doesn’t."
"It does if I say it does."

"So, that doesn’t really give you an excuse."
"Yes it does!"
"God knows why. You’re, like, pretty much the least funny person I know."
"That's probably why, honestly."
