your eyes fluttered open softly, the early morning sun peeking in through the curtains and warming your cheeks as you squinted, not able to adjust to the light yet.

you turned around to be faced with your sound asleep boyfriend, his eyebrows slightly furrowed as his chest rose and fell. his toned arm was tightly wrapped around your waist and at your movement, he snuggled his face further into your neck.

you smiled at jay's sleepy demeanor, happy to have him beside you; what better way was there to wake up?

you brought a hand to his dark, slightly disheveled hair, stroking it lightly as he dozed away. his breath fanned your neck and you felt vibrations as he hummed lightly from your touches. you moved your fingers to his neck, gingerly tracing his birthmark.

"what're you doing?" jay sleepily mumbled against you, stirring a bit. "it tickles."

you smiled softly. "i can't help it, you just look so perfect."

you felt jay smile at your comment, humming in satisfaction. "keep doing it then."

you laughed. "baby, i have to go. i have things to do."

he groaned, moving away from your neck to look into your eyes, his gorgeous irises ordering your heart to beat faster.

"just two more minutes, come on." he pulled you even closer to him. "two minutes never hurt anyone."

you raised an eyebrow, trying to loosen his grip on your waist. "i dunno jay, my professor's pretty strict-"

he pressed a kiss on your lips to shush you, and you smiled, well aware of his antics, yet they worked every time.

jay pulled away, his lips jutting out just a bit. "come on. i'll make it up to you if your professor gets mad, okay?"

you paused in thought before sighing, snuggling into his chest, his cotton t-shirt soft on your skin. "you promise?"

jay smiled and pecked the top of your head.

"promise."

“hey, hey, hey, slow down,” jay said to you softly in a serious tone, his hands reaching out for your shoulders.

you were getting ready to leave for work, but as a consequence for you forgetting to set an alarm for this morning, which rarely, if ever, happens, you had to rush to get ready for the day.

“your collar is all messed up,” he told you, his hands already in the middle of fixing it for you, his eyes full of concentration. “i made breakfast.”

“thanks, love, but i don’t have time. i have to leave—like—right now.”

“no, you’re not skipping your meals again,” he looked into your eyes as he told you. “eat at least a little, okay? here.”

he held up a bite of food for you with a pair of chopsticks, smiling as he watched you take it into your mouth and chew it before swallowing.

“you still have a few minutes,” he said, checking the time on his phone. “sit for a little bit and eat. please? i made this food for you.”

you frowned, feeling contradicted, but after some thought, you complied.

he smiled, holding a bite in front of your mouth for you to eat again, “here.”

watching you enjoy his food, his heart filled with warmth inside.

he placed a hand on your leg soothingly before holding out some more food to you.

after many more bites, jay checked the time and stood up, “okay, you should get going now.”

checking the time yourself, you stood up.

but before you could go, you felt jay’s hand wrap around your waist, pulling your side into his gently before he placed a kiss on the top of your head.

“stay safe, love,” he told you softly. “see you when you get home later. i love you.”

“thanks,” you smiled. “love you too.”

and like that, he watched you walk out the door, happy, without a lingering sign of the chaos you were experiencing this morning.

the smile returned to his face, awaiting the time for when you’d get home and he could hold you in his arms again.
