Welcome to Aurora Bay, [ELIZABETH ‘LIZA’ LEVIN]! I couldn’t help but notice you look an awful lot like [FLORENCE PUGH]. You must be the [TWENTY-SEVEN] year old [BAKER AT SWEET NOTHINGS BAKERY]. Word is you’re [FRIENDLY] but can also be a bit [SELF-DEPRECIATIVE] and your favorite song is [DAYLIGHT BY TAYLOR SWIFT]. I also heard you’ll be staying in [SEABROOK QUARTER]. I’m sure you’ll love it!
Liza was the first-born daughter of James and Agnes Levin, and even though she was only two years older than her sister, Liza took the role of big sister very, very seriously. She always wanted to help take care of her sister Sterling, from changing and feeding her to walking with her to school as they got older. According to their mom, the girls were inseparable, always trusted each other above all else--which was for the best, because as the Levin girls got older, they realized just who their family was.
Their great-grandfather, Charles, founded the town they called home- Aurora Bay- and their father James owned the restaurant Neptune--not just the most popular restaurant in town, but one of the most popular restaurants in the country. Because of this, the Levin family had money, and and the more money they had, the less they could really tell just who their real friends and allies were. It was a lesson Liza learned all too well as she grew up in a small town where everyone knew exactly who she was.
In grade school she was made fun of, called a goody-goody and spoiled, she was teased for fancier clothes and not being normal. It was also in grade school though that her life, and that of her family, truly and forever changed. Liza’s mother Agnes got in a car accident that she tragically died in. Liza was only eight at the time, and yet from that moment on, Liza felt it more important than ever to watch out for her sister- even to take care of her father.
It went on like that for years and into high school--and it was then again that things once again changed. This time, instead of being made fun of, kids started wanting to be her friend. They wanted to hang out with her (at her house of course) and wanted to be seen with her. And as someone who longed for friendships and being accepted and being liked, she was all too eager for it. It took longer than she cared to admit though for Liza to realize that a lot of them didn’t want to be her friend for her, but because of her money and wanting to be associated with the Levin name. It was around then too that she and her sister had a falling out, Sterling upset with her for acting too much like a mother. So with not too many real friends and a strained relationship with her sister, Liza turned to her art. What started out just as a hobby as a child when she was left alone during lunches and recess and free time had turned out to be an outlet for her, an escape, something she still uses and loves to this day.
She twenty when life went on a bit of a tailspin again. Sterling had come to her, saying she was pregnant. Her sister needed her. So Liza again found herself in the caretaker role for her sister, but this time she’d do it right. Especially since the baby’s father left once he found out. It was around that time that Liza started dating her boyfriend Jackson- the son of Aurora Bay’s mayor. They immediately hit it off with mutual likes and beliefs and the feeling of being scrutinized by the rest of the world and Liza fell for him fast. They were together for two years and had even moved in together (in a condo her father insisted he’d pay for) and Liza was happy. So of course again, the universe decided to throw a wrench into everything.
She’d wanted to surprise her boyfriend for his birthday, and when she showed unannounced, she instead found him in bed with someone else. Heartbroken, Liza broke up with him immediately, moved back home, and has tried her best to not see him since, even if he still obviously lives in town.
It’s been two years since all that happened, and while Liza still hasn’t really dated since, she’s at least glad to know that her relationship with Sterling is stronger than ever. The two moved in together in a condo near their father’s house. Her little sister is her best friend in the whole world, the person she trusts most, and her niece, Sunny, is practically like a daughter to her as well and someone Liza would do anything for.
At twenty-four now, Liza works as the baker in the Sweet Nothings bakery in town, wanting to make her own money and it’s something she truly loves since she’s always been good at baking, something she had in common with her mother. She sometimes wonders about life outside of Aurora Bay though, away from a place where everyone knows who she is and has opinions on her without really knowing her. But for now, that’s just a pipe dream. And so for now, Liza is at least content with her life, living with Sterling and baking, helping to raise Sunny and doing her art in her spare time. She just hopes that one day, something more and something real will happen for her too.
