š½Ā ExploringĀ Alien: Romulus
Nobodyz Opinion ReviewĀ ā Xeno Level: š„š„š„š„š„
In prep for this movie, I went back and watched the rest of the franchise.
The day before I saw it, there was a fullĀ AlienĀ marathon on. Locked in.
It laid the foundation for what to expect fromĀ Romulus.
And I gotta say it straight:
This might be the bestĀ AlienĀ movie ever made.
Hereās why:
š¾ Xenomorph Done Right
Over the years, the Xenomorph has evolvedādifferent hosts, environments, vibes. Thatās cool. WhatĀ wasnātĀ cool in the recent films?
CGI Overkill.
As someone who grew up on theĀ golden era of animatronics and puppeteers, I gotta say: practical effects hit different. And this time around? Weāre back.
XenomorphĀ andĀ facehuggersĀ look terrifying again.
CGI usedĀ only when necessaryĀ (like those running/jumping facehuggers).
The horror? ItāsĀ tangibleĀ again.
š ļø Set Design That Makes Sense
āItās 2144āwhy everything look old and scrapped?ā
Then it hit meāRomulusĀ is set betweenĀ AlienĀ andĀ Aliens.
And the set matches that perfectly.
The grime, the tension, the industrial hellscapeā
If you've seen the OGs, youāll feel right at home.
š Franchise Connections
If youāve been following the saga, you know the timeline jumps all over the place. That means questionsāand plot holes.
CovenantĀ added a few answers
But now...
Romulus ties together: Prometheus, Covenant, AlienĀ andĀ Aliens.
I wonāt spoil it, but if you know, youĀ knowĀ š
True fans will catch the threads.
𧬠Rain Carradine: A New Ripley
No one replacesĀ Ellen Ripley. She's iconic.
But we finally got someone cut from the same cloth.
Not seen since 1986 (Aliens)
Rain steps into her own lane while channeling that same energy
Itās not a copyāitās an homageĀ to what made Ripley legendary
No disrespect toĀ Alien 3, but Rain gives us the Ripley we missed.
This movie hit for me.
Itās not for the casuals. To really loveĀ Romulus, you gotta know the lore.
But even if you donāt, itās still worth watching.
