We're hanging out with friends at the dacha, listening to Guns N' Roses on an old Soviet cassette player that drags the tape, so the music slows down in a funny way and makes the vocals lower.
We were joking about the 27 Club and all that - about how we're getting stoned, and our other friend will live long and happily because he's a normie... and then "Ain't It Fun" started playing.
Honestly, I think I've been ignoring Guns for a long time and underestimating them. Like, I knew they were classics and all, and I was familiar with their biggest hits and liked them. But I never considered them my favorite band and never listened to them that much.
But just recently I started getting really hooked on them.
This year I started collecting cassettes. It all began when my friend gave me Queen for New Year's. I bought GnR myself later - it was my third cassette (the second was Scorpions, which another friend gave me because he doesn't listen to them, but I love them).
So anyway. I bought GnR because I thought, "Well, it's a classic, you gotta have it." Listened to it. Realized it's actually pretty damn good. Listened a few more times. Didn't even notice when I started playing that tape more than the others (even more than Queen).
Recently I was hanging out with my little brother and we were listening to GnR. I was showing him the inserts from the cassette and telling him about the bands (I don't think he got any of it, but whatever). Then "Civil War" came on, and I told him:
- This is a fucking awesome song, so shut up and let's listen.
I've noticed this thing - sometimes you don't really click with an artist at first, but then at some point they suddenly become almost your favorite. And honestly, I think that's a really cool feeling
