Intro - About Us

This tumblr site was created by a concerned muslim citizen sick of seeing a particularly atrocious militant group being called "The Islamic State" in all the newspapers. Amongst this group's crimes (and there are many) is that they have taken such broad terms (islamic and state) and narrowed them to a particular meaning (their name and actions). Unfortunately, they've been pretty successful at getting a lot of the world to adopt that meaning, too.

So that's where this tumblr comes in. The word islamic can mean loads of things, and so can the word state (emotional, physical, mental..state of mind, state of body, etc.). So help me out by providing your alternative interpretation. Let's reinsert polyvocality (having multiple meanings and perspectives) back to this term. Let's reappropriate one of the many things this militant group has stolen.
