“Oh, you know, just taking a little stroll!” Eliza smiled innocently, hiding her hands behind her back. It was clear she was up to something; the chain on the iron gate behind her seemed looser than it should have been, and the way she stood conveniently blocked the lock.

“Well…” Eliza glanced back at the gate, then at Erika. “I… I was just gonna go take a walk outside. Get some fresh air, you know?” She stepped aside, revealing a bent hanger sticking of of the gate’s lock. “I know everyone says I can’t leave the mansion grounds until I’m older, but I wanna explore!”

Erika was torn, she understood her sister’s situation all too well, she was like that at one point and always had been up until she met her ex boyfriend. Part of her wanted to let Eliza experience the outside but the other part feared of what could happen to her. “I-I see..” she was able to muster out.

“I wasn’t gonna be gone long. Do you want to come too?” Eliza asked, ever so innocently. “I mean- I don’t want you to get in trouble too, but it’d probably be better than me going alone…” She jammed the bent wire into the lock one last time, causing the chain to fall to the floor. “You don’t have to come, I’ll be careful. Just, please don’t tell anyone, ok?” 

A gleeful grin spread across Eliza’s face, and she bounded past the gate without hesitation. She took a few steps down the path, but then stopped. “Huh.” Her smile faded into a perplexed frown. “So now what? I gotta be honest, I have no idea how to get to anything out here.”

Erika returned an all too similar grin as she followed her little sister out of the gates, only to come to a small pause. The ghost girl took a second to think. “Well…is th-there a-anything you t-thought you’d like to do? I know my way ar-around quite well so I-I can lead the way..” she explained. Figuring she wanted her little sister to do what she really wanted to do out in the open world.

Eliza tapped her chin in thought. “Well, let’s do something fun! Know any exciting places around here?” She smirked, golden eyes glinting like candlelight.

Erika paused, placing her hands on her hips and looking around for a moment. “Well l-let’s see…” she mumbled, trying to figure out what would fit Eliza’s personal definition of fun. “I think I m-may know a few o-options, is there a-anything par-particular you find incredibly te-tempting..? Dancing, Theme p-parks, Food, S-scaring people, Live sho-shows..?” She asked, tilting her head as she threw out some suggestions.

“You know what?” Eliza smirked mischievously. “I wanna scare some people!” As she spoke, her pale skin turned a sickly shade of blue, her more ghostly side starting to show. “I’m sure there are some mortals around here just waiting for a fright.”

Nola immediately grabbed the cup from her shaky hands. “You’re not supposed to have more than two a day, ‘Liza you’re shaking, do you know that? I know you’re nervous about tomorrow’s test but this isn’t how to handle it! Believe me, I know.” She crossed her arms, the cup still firmly in her grip and sighed.

Eliza grumbled in protest. “Yeah, but tomorrow’s math, and if I don’t study enough, I’ll fail! I can barely add, let alone do algebra!” Well, she was supposed to be studying, but all Eliza had done for the past few hours was drink tea and silently panic.

“Algebra isn’t that har- Okay yeah it’s really hard and it sucks but you still shouldn’t just drink tea for hours on end and freak out! That’s worse than not studying! I know this is stressful, and I know it feels like everything is weighing on these tests, but it’s gonna be fine!” Her voice waivered. “Probably!” Yeah pep talks weren’t her thing but she tries. “Now take a nap get rid of all of those tea cups and take a nap before you pass out. Trust me I know what going down from a caffeine high feels like.”

“I can’t go to sleep now, too much tea.“  At this point, Eliza was becoming more like a stubborn child by the minute. She began to wander laps around the room, as if trying to walk off her caffeine high and dodge the subject at the same time. “Besides, I should try and actually study, right?” She asked innocently, picking up a random object from a nearby shelf.

“It’ll wear off.” Nola eyed her as Eliza walked around the room a few times, probably trying to tire herself out. She looked at her and huffed. “Not now, you’re sleep deprived, you can’t remember things when you’re sleep deprived.”

“Fiiiiiiine.” Eliza stuck out her tongue. She flopped onto the nearby bed, burying her face in the sheets. After a minute, she rolled over like a lazy cat and stared up at the ceiling. “I guess I’ll try to sleep, seeing as I apparently have nothing better to do,” She grumbled.

The teen grinned, glad she had listened to her advice. Instead of just walking away Nola sat down on a chair next to the bed, then saw Eliza rolling back over and staring at the ceiling. “Just try to clear your head. O-or play music? I don’t know what makes you tired. And make sure you actually get sleep, after this I can and will make you actually study for at least an hour. This should totally help out!” Her voice got high pitched like what she was saying was a lie, but hopefully this would work out.

“Yeahhhhhh, I guesssss....” Eliza grumbled. She took the book and opened it, holding it above her as she laid on her back. After a minute she dropped it on her face, letting it cover her eyes like some sort of makeshift sleep mask. “Yeah, it’ll do.”

Eliza took a deep breath, running a hand through her hair. "I... I was in the graveyard earlier. It was raining, and I saw this cat sitting by one of the crypts. I thought it was one of the mortal cats that hang out with the band, so I brought it inside..." She gave a shaky sigh. "It was asleep, so I didn't... I didn't know it was dangerous. I just wanted to help it..."

Nola immediately grabbed the cup from her shaky hands. “You’re not supposed to have more than two a day, ‘Liza you’re shaking, do you know that? I know you’re nervous about tomorrow’s test but this isn’t how to handle it! Believe me, I know.” She crossed her arms, the cup still firmly in her grip and sighed.

Eliza grumbled in protest. “Yeah, but tomorrow’s math, and if I don’t study enough, I’ll fail! I can barely add, let alone do algebra!” Well, she was supposed to be studying, but all Eliza had done for the past few hours was drink tea and silently panic.

“Algebra isn’t that har- Okay yeah it’s really hard and it sucks but you still shouldn’t just drink tea for hours on end and freak out! That’s worse than not studying! I know this is stressful, and I know it feels like everything is weighing on these tests, but it’s gonna be fine!” Her voice waivered. “Probably!” Yeah pep talks weren’t her thing but she tries. “Now take a nap get rid of all of those tea cups and take a nap before you pass out. Trust me I know what going down from a caffeine high feels like.”

“I can’t go to sleep now, too much tea.“  At this point, Eliza was becoming more like a stubborn child by the minute. She began to wander laps around the room, as if trying to walk off her caffeine high and dodge the subject at the same time. “Besides, I should try and actually study, right?” She asked innocently, picking up a random object from a nearby shelf.

“It’ll wear off.” Nola eyed her as Eliza walked around the room a few times, probably trying to tire herself out. She looked at her and huffed. “Not now, you’re sleep deprived, you can’t remember things when you’re sleep deprived.”
