Papyrus had it so perfectly planned in his mind.

He would return home to his timeline, bearing the final Human soul bound to his own. He’d appear normal, and familiar to the common folk. They would be overcome by feelings of relief of at last having their glorious king back and joy of knowing the barrier would soon be torn away.

Papyrus would get all that he deserved. And to Papyrus, he deserved only the best.

But things do not always go as planned.

He paraded himself through Snowden. March on the curving roads of the Waterfalls. Marched proudly into the Hotlads. He greeted every monster with enthusiasm and made speeches at every turn.

The king was back! And with the final soul! And yet, not a single monster showered him with praises or kisses.

They stared at him, with suspicious and worried eyes. They flinched at his touch. Winced at his words.

And followed at a distance, driven only by curiosity. 

Even Papyrus was not blind to this. Having been surrounded by so many critical eyes, he, at last, began to notice the obvious signs that he was not liked.

But surely. This was not his fault.

Papyrus had hoped to rally his supporters to overthrow the false king, but he reached the castle without a single friend by his side.

Mettaton did not hide from him.

Mettaton spoke loudly, and quickly. Cutting off any prepared speech the great Papyrus might have had.

“I TOLD THEM EVERYTHING PAPYRUS. I SHOWED THEM EVERYTHING.”

“YOUR MURDER OF THE DEFENSELESS FLOWER MONSTER. YOUR FALSE CHILD. YOUR LIES AND DECEIT. I EVEN RELEASED A SPECIAL EXPLAINING THE MULTIVERSE PAPYRUS. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE AND YOU CAN’T HOPE TO TWIST IT IN YOUR FAVOR.” Papyrus felt his aching jaw part slightly, speechless. Precious seconds to keep himself from losing his cool, costing him his opportunity to speak.

He did not expect things to go this way. It wasn’t supposed to go this way.

“I EVEN TOLD THEM YOU MAY BE RETURNING WITH A SOUL. THE FINAL SOUL. YOU PLAN TO USE IT BARGIN YES? TAKE BACK THE CROWN AND WAGE WAR?”

“NO ONE WANTS WAR PAPYRUS. NO ONE WANTS YOU.”

“SO KEEP YOUR SOUL AND LEAVE. YOU ARE HERBY BANISHED-”

And so. Papyrus vanished. Not allowing the robotic king to finish his harsh words. 

For a moment it was silent. For a moment.

Things seemed to of worked out better than anyone could have hoped positive.

But.
