"It's not prestige drama."
It's not trying to be.
"Licorice Pizza is a problematic movie!"
Ignoring the fact that "problematic" is an overrated and almost meaningless criticism regarding fiction, you could only really make a somewhat viable argument this movie is problematic if it was written and directed by a woman.
Imagine for a second, if the roles were switched but the movie was still written and directed by a man. The 15 year old is a girl and the 25 year old is a man. At this point, you might have some questions for Paul Thomas Anderson. Like bruh, how exactly did you come up with this story? Were you fantasizing about getting with a 15 year old girl?
That's how it would be if Licorice Pizza was written and directed by a woman. But because it's written and directed by a man, it's more of a reflection of his own thoughts about growing up as a guy, as the 15 year old is male. If you asked most men, they'd tell you at the age of 15, they were attracted to adult women.
So it's not really problematic. It having a happy ending more reflects what a lot of men wanted when they were 15. The idea of being with a 25 year old woman and it actually working out despite the difference in age.
It really says a lot that most people who call this movie problematic are women. They don't really understand the viewpoint.
the 'male loneliness epidemic' and 'friendzoning' - two phrases that scream 'men's problems require urgent attention, while everyone else's struggles are just background noise.' Newsflash: rejection and loneliness are universal human experiences, not exclusive to men. but when men face them, suddenly it's a catastrophic injustice that can only be rectified by granting them unchecked access to women's time, energy, and bodies. the entitlement is real.
let's set the record straight: women aren't responsible for your emotional well-being. we are not obligated to provide you with companionship, sex, or validation. the notion that we're somehow failing you by not fulfilling these expectations is not only absurd but also dangerously entitled. and if you feel like working on yourself to attract the right woman is too much work you should probably try men, it's okay to be gay.
The "epidemic" is actually just normal though, which is why I don't understand how it became such a talking point. Loneliness is the default state of every single man who ever existed. Most men who have ever existed have died lonely. Even a lot of the ones who actually had wives. That's just how it works.
I will say this though, women who believe they have zero responsibility for men's well being are privileged women. This has not been the case for most of human history and only recently have women been afforded the option to not give a shit. Why? Because men allowed it. If men wanted to lock up all women right now, they could do it and women's only chance of avoiding it would be to appeal to men to not do it. It's a tough truth to accept but it is what it is. If you don't care about men's well being, fair enough. But try not to throw it in their faces. Antagonizing the group of people who could take away your rights on a whim is not exactly intelligent. Progress does not happen without men's acceptance. Never forget that.
I never thought I'd watch a show where the main character is clearly a stalker and yet the problem involving the isolated girl he's stalking can only really be solved by someone who stalks her. Who else is gonna be able to pick up the patterns in her life to solve the issue? Only someone who spends an inordinate amount of time watching her and tracing her steps in life. Just bizarre.
At first I thought he was the cause of the problem but now I don't think so. I think he's both a stalker AND she's cursed in some way. But I don't think one is related to the other. Obviously the show itself may not commit to the stalker angle but still. Stalking her while genuinely trying to solve her biggest problem is a wild plot.

I like adventures as much as the next man -- if the next man is a man who likes adventures -- even so, don't-don't go native. What do you mean? I'm not. Look, there's a whole dimension in here, but there's only room for one me. Wait-wait a second, you just raved about ghosts like a kid who had too much sherbert.
Its been over a year and I don't think my feelings about Hades 2 being Supergiant's next game has changed. I'm still immensely disappointed.
Just found out Korea is making an adaptation of The Mentalist. If we don't get the KDrama edition of Patrick Jane making a paper frog for Lisbon, then what's the point?
I despised Start Up, so the fact I'm watching Castaway Diva is weird. The writer really likes to write unlikeable male leads I guess. But the question is, does she actually know who the unlikeable one is in this show? Because she apparently didn't when writing Start Up. lol
I have to die. No. You can change things. I can't. Even the tiniest change -- the ramifications could be catastrophic, could spread carnage and chaos across the universe like ripples on a pond.

Look, I have a duty of care, okay? You know what that is? Of course I know what a duty of care is. What are you suggesting?

Now that Dead Reckoning is coming out on home media and presumably streaming in less than a month, I'm just gonna say what I've wanted to say since it released.
I adore Ilsa. Always have. Her death was a worthy one. I'm tired of when every single time a character dies, people just say "they deserved better" as if that's some sort of legitimate criticism. It especially happens when a female character dies. Modern fandom doesn't know how to take a fictional death anymore and it's just annoying. She died trying to save someone and the world. A heroic death. Exactly how I expect any of these characters to die.
And I'm also tired of people acting like Grace was written to be a replacement. She clearly wasn't. They're entirely different characters.
Seriously, some of the complaints I've seen are completely bone headed.
Love at First Sight is just more evidence that Haley Lu Richardson has incredibly soulful eyes.

The editing in this Zoey 102 movie is terrible. Really makes it feel like there are entire parts of scenes missing.
MI Dead Reckoning Part 1 is excellent, as expected. Too bad the fandom is gonna be a dumpster fire for a while because of THAT moment. Which I personally thought was done pretty well. But whatever.
