Everyone hustles his life along, and is troubled by a longing for the future and weariness of the present. But the man who … organizes every day as though it were his last, neither longs for nor fears the next day… Nothing can be taken from this life, and you can only add to it as if giving to a man who is already full and satisfied food which he does not want but can hold. So you must not think a man has lived long because he has white hair and wrinkles: he has not lived long, just existed long. For suppose you should think that a man had had a long voyage who had been caught in a raging storm as he left harbor, and carried hither and thither and driven round and round in a circle by the rage of opposing winds? He did not have a long voyage, just a long tossing about.

Today was a big purge
I needed to get a head start on the weekend. As a result, I got rid of stuff for days: 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15. That’s 84 things in total for these 7 days, bringing my total up to 120. That’s kind of crazy if you think about it. I’m definitely starting to feel the squeeze a bit now. When I get back next week I’m going to have to get rid of 16 things. That’s a lot, no matter how you consider it. I’m looking forward to it though. I’m feeling like things are clearing up but I will definitely reach a point where I think that enough is a enough. I’ll probably regret some of my choices later on. I can live with myself for that, though.
Peace.
Day 15: this block of knives. Yes, I included the holders as things because I’m pretty sure that when I first bought them this was determined to be a “15 piece knife set” or whatever. I don’t currently need this many knives. When I do eventually need some knives, I will either use the two camping knives that I own or invest in one or two good ones.
Day 14: kitchen stuff! Look At all of this plastic. I really don’t need it.
Day 13: as the label suggests, I’m getting rid of these law books + stuff. They’re mostly notes and binders from conferences (studying areas of law that I’m no longer immediately a part of) and day planners and other junk I don’t really need. That’s my jam: getting rid of junk I don’t really need.

Day 11, 12: miscellaneous stuff (some of which is not pictured). A few kitchen things (seen above), a bag, a piece of art, 3 books, 2 magazines, a burnt CD, 3 books, ironing board, 2 other art things, a foam roller, 3 more pens (!!!).
Day 8, 9, 10:
Pens. Bloody damn, pens. A few years back I resolved to only use these pens. I ordered a bunch through a previous employer. No one else wanted them when I was departing so I took them with me. I took them with my several times. Since that time, I’ve discovered a new type of pen that I prefer, and I’m much happier with it. The hockey puck was used as part of an art project that has came and went. I have no reason for keeping it.
