Running off klah and rage

I'm still kind of appalled that after everything Menolly went through, from escaping her awful life and surviving holdless, being bullied and belittled, to finally being recognised and having her talents nurtured and shared, that she wasn't named Masterharper of Pern after Robinton stepped down.

I always find it strange how every fantasy/sci-fi world call space ships ships. Why are they universally known as ships? I get the reference to ocean ships, as in, ships that travel in space or sky rather than ships that travel in the sea, but...why? Most of the time, they don't resemble ships at all. So a civilisation suddenly uncovering the vessels their ancestors came to the planet on, who have no records of their ancient past and have never even thought about flying ships (I'm re-reading the dragons of pern books), discovering these things in orbit and buried underground, all know them to be ships.
