Summers inside my pockets



There are summers

Inside my pocket of bootcut denim

In which Maa used to make kairi pickles

And fill the boxes full.

Dada used to bring home mangoes and chop and slice them with excitement of seeing me smiling with sparkling eyes.

Inside my pockets I hold time

Time which rules world

Records memories

Holds us

Sips pain

Cross oceans .

I love that denim of mine,

It holds so much of me

While I cry to find me.

Why ?

Why is it so difficult to find oneself in those little moments of life?

I weep often and silence smudges my face.

I take some moments of summer out from the pocket

I wish to relive them

But time, darling!

It doesn’t only heal

छोटे शहरों का प्रेम

बड़े बड़े शहरों में रहने वाले वो लोग

छोटे शहरों जैसा प्रेम करना भी जानते है ।

जो नज़रें मिलाने के इंतज़ार में

नजाने कितनी दुकाने ताक़तें है ।

जो हाथ पकड़ने के बहाने

चाय को ज़रिया बनाते है ।

जो अकेले मिलने की चाह में

शर्म का लाल पीला शौल ओढ़ कर आते है ।

जो पहली मुलाक़ात पे भी

महकता हुआ गजरा लाते है ।

मंदिर की घंटी, कुकर की सीटी, निज़ाम साहब की चाय और तफ़री, सुबह की रौनक़ और मीठी मीठी दिसंबर की सर्दी में

नज़रें ओझल आँखों से एक दूसरे को तलाशती है ।

एक ऐसी तलाश जिसमें रंग रूप, जात पात नहीं सिर्फ़ उनकी और आपकी तफ़सीली बातें ।

“क्या रंग पहना है उसने, जूती कितने नंबर की होगी उसकी, काजल कितना जचता है उसपे, या अगली मुलाक़ात में कहा और कब मिलना है ।”

सून सान गलियों में जाकर

हाथों की लकीरें तराशी है जिनकी,

जिनके लिए मौक़े बनाना अच्छा सा लगता था,

वो बड़े शहरों में गुम तो होगये

मगर यहीं मिलेंगे अभी भी
