The Gables

The students have put the finishing touches on the paintings today. I am so impressed. Please come along tomorrow night to The Hamilton and Alexandra College to see their amazing paintings.

Today work began on the birds. Some tints were applied and also some inks were sprayed on.

The birds are really standing out from the backgrounds now. I am really enjoying working with the students they are so engaged and focussed.

The paintings are coming along nicely. Students have been using a oil pastels, coloured paper and water soluble crayons to add some interesting effects.

Students have completed another layer on their canvases this week.

This layer consisted of painting large blocks of colour. The original colours were mixed with white to create a tint. The colour wheeel was used to ensure that complimentary colours were painted near each other to maintain harmony in the paintings.

It was a busy day yesterday at The Hamilton and Alexandra College where I am working as an artist in residence for term 1.

After a demonstration,  the students were excited to finally start painting the canvases. The year 6’s could hardly reach the top of the canvases to paint, but they certainly managed to get the paint flowing. They used only 4 colours and painted them separately onto the…

The 12 canvases now have charcoal drawings on them. The charcoal drawings that the students did were so inspirational. I couldn’t help feeling happy reproducing them on the canvases. 

It has been an exciting few weeks at The Hamilton and Alexandra College, where I am an artist in residence. 

Each week students will join me in the Da Vinci studio to paint. By the end of this term they will have completed 12 very large canvases. We will work in an intuitive style. This allows all students to join in and and enjoy the process, no matter what age or ability. This technique builds…

It is quite fitting for me as Leonardo Davinci is my all time artistic hero. I have studied his art for years and have been fortunate to see his work whilst travelling in Europe. He was such a talented man in so many ways, but it is his drawing that attracts me…

We are all up early for our final day of painting in the Lily Pad. It’s hard to believe how much we have done in the week. It has been jam packed and we have all been so lucky to have some pretty amazing experiences.
