You've gotta follow people. Make contact, make connections. The algorithm is other people. My "for you" page occasionally shows me newbie comic artists like you, so Imma give you a follow, see if I like it, and then you might see my weird little face pop up after every post, followed perhaps by a few of my mutuals.
That's mostly how Tumblr works. Established accounts get a lot more traction than new ones, but tapping into fandoms will see your numbers rise. You can also use the Community feature to join a small pond and see what people think of you that way.
Lastly, ignore the bots that show up in your comments asking for commissions.
Ohhh nice. Thanks for the feedback! I will try to look around and see how the platform feels and the general vibe of people and their content. New platforms are always such a struggle. Tumblr in particular feels so much different from e.g. Tiktok and Instagram.
