Ramadan Mubarak 🕌🌙🤎

I can say freely that it was (and still is) my choice to wear hijab.

I can’t say that it was easy at first.

Last year, I was just starting to practise Islam and I read in the Quran that believing women should cover and I brought myself to the idea of wanting to follow this command, to cover, to show my faith on the outside, as well. I remember watching youtube videos of hijab tutorials of Ameena and Nye and Rebecca and I was so inspired. I found myself trying on the hijab with the scarves that I had in the middle of the night while everyone was asleep. I fell in love with hijab. Though, I was terrified of what people might think about me if I try to wear this outside. I was especially terrified of what my Mother would say…but I thought these women on youtube chose to wear it and they are not afraid of what the creation will say but they fear Allah and that was enough to convince me to promise Allah that I would wear hijab that night March 3rd, 2013.

I told my mother and I had never ever in my life have seen a much worse reaction than what she gave me that day. And unfortunately, there was more issues before that added fuel to the fire. She made it difficult that day for me and my other siblings but I stood firm on my promise. I told myself “this is a trial. With hardship comes ease”, it will pass and I ask Allah that He may forgive my Mother.

Going to school was nerve-wrecking! But when I got there, no one said anything. As a matter of fact, after weeks into the semester they forgot how I looked like without my headscarf. Lol The same happened at my old job, too. Alhamdulillah, my mom calmed down over time and started supporting our hijab and even went out to buy scarves for me and my other sister who started wearing hijab, too. People treated me more nicer now in my hijab whenever I go out. And I recieved much more benefits while wearing it. Patience really does help if you stick with it and always turn to Allah for help.
