"Sophie's not allowed to be the mom friend that's icky to me! I don't like that!"
Sophie made her damn self the mom friend when she leaned across Nate to feel Parker's forehead for a fever and I will die on this hill
Sophie- Mom
Elliot- Older Brother
Parker- Rebel Sister
Hardison- Too Smart Younger Brother
Nate- Really, really iffy Uncle
Sterling- Asshole but Useful
Imagine for me…
It’s a cold, winter night early in the twins’ time with Maglor and Maedhros at Amon Ereb
They try to escape in the middle of the night, taking what they can with them
Maglor and Maedhros wake up to the twins missing, and a blizzard blowing in
Maedhros is the first one on the track, his fur cloak on his shoulders as he searches, a different set of twins on his mind, ones with snow-white hair that were only a little younger than Elrond and Elros, ones that he never found
Maybe he calls the wrong names once or twice
The twins are eventually found, red-faced and shivering up a storm
Maedhros has them wrapped in cloaks and in his arms under his own cloak, so very relieved as they walk back
Nobody will ever say whether he was crying or not
The twins catch a cold after this stunt, and Maedhros just huffs a laugh, relieved that they’re alive to have to worry about a cold, more than willing to look after his little peredhil
Only Maglor sees him later as he collapses against the wall, silent tears he doesn’t bother wiping away
It started in Thargelion.
A surprise to be sure, for some, when they learnt of the origins. And yet for others there was no where else that it could have started.
One midwinter, as cold and bitter as Thargelion could remember. A midwinter where orcs had managed to pierce down and destroy a mannish village.
A few scant buildings still stood, and it was in them that the villagers gathered, huddling for warmth and sharing what scant supplies had survived.
It was to this village that the elven lord of the land visited, garbed in his cloak of scarlet, bells on his horse heralding his arrival.
With him was supplies for the village. Good enough that none would hunger until spring, and building materials so they might start to rebuild their homes.
And within his own saddlebags, handed out by his own hand, were candied fruits wrapped in squares of bright fabric. A packet enough for each child of the village to have for their very own - from the boy mere days from his majority to the babe born two weeks past.
It was a gift which brought much light and joy when the days were darkest.
The next midwinter the children of the village recalled the visit from the elven Lord in his cloak of scarlet. They pestered the adults, asking if Lord Caranthir would visit again, if they would hear the bells and see him ride towards them.
The adults could not answer - for how indeed would they know the mind of a great elven lord such as he? Yet word reached the ears of the lord; carried by bird and elf and man in his great network that spanned much of Beleriand.
Cheerful, kind, and nice had never been and would never be words used to describe Caranthir Feanorion. Yet, upon hearing of the wishes of the children he suddenly declared that he would visit once again.
He busted that same village, and all others on his route, offering the children small treats and assurance that the days would get longer again,
And so it became a tradition of the lord, that each midwinter he would visit those of the Edain that had settled his lands and give out small gifts and sweets to the children that resided there.
(For ever had Carnistir Morifinwë had a soft spot for children and their wishes.)
—
When the flames of the Bragollach came, and Thargelion burned, the Edain that had once called it home were scattered. Left to wander and resettle in new homes around Beleriand. Some were by Amon Ereb, others around Doriath, yet more found themselves settling in the small harbour town of Sirion.
There were no more midwinter visits from Caranthir, barely even a midwinter celebration at all. Not in Sirion, where the icy wind and fog from the sea seemed even colder than that which had come from the mountains.
Not in Sirion until a man who had been one of the first children to be visited, a man now crooked and bent with age, pulled on the cloak he had once worn as a member of Thargelion’s army. A cloak that was a red as (if not quite as fine material) as their elven lord’s once was.
He donned his cloak, and handed out what scant treats could be found, and to the children of Sirion - elf and man alike - it seemed as though magic had taken place.
The tradition carried on, of gifts brought by a red cloaked figure on midwinter. Through group after group of refugee joining their ever growing settlement. Combining and melding until the figure became almost a tale of myth and legend, one guarded and guided by the adults to help keep some wonder and joy alive in the midst of despair.
And when Sirion fell, when it fell to figure garbed in red, when its people were made refugees once again, so did the tradition continue to spread. To Balar, and the Host of the West, and even to Amon Ereb in the tales of two tiny twins.
It spread and it grew, combining so many traditions and stories, tales of a gift giver, a maker of things to bring joy in the winter.
(And how his brothers laughed when, upon their release, they discovered just what of Caranthir’s legacy lived on.)

You've been kidnapped but the main character of the last TV show you watched is coming to rescue you.
Who’s rescuing you?
Oh yeah, I’m good.
Are you, though?
Sure, the Doc’s cool, especially Gatwa Doctor, but his track record on saving people is decidedly mixed. There’s a reason the quote is “Just this once, everybody lives!”
either Sam, from The Boroughs, or Max Miller from Tasting History

One of the biggest issues of moving to England as a person who is Ukrainian AND neurodivergent is not knowing how to answer the small talk question of "how are you", but today I was reminded that Ukrainian blessed me with the phrase that roughly translates as "living is hard but dying would be a pity" and can we please naturalise it so I can use it all day every day
Okay so this post breached containment I think so I feel the need to clarify, because the vibes in the notes seem to suggest that people see this as an inspirational quote bestowed onto someone to help them soldier on. That's not how Ukrainians do it. Rather, imagine a person that looks like they haven't slept in three days and also hiked up a mountain. They are asked "Hey how you doing buddy", and in response they let out the deepest, most done with this shit sigh you can imagine, mutter their favourite curse word and THEN they say the phrase (which, by the way, is four words in Ukrainian - тяжко жити, шкода вмерти/tyazhko zhyty, shkoda vmerty). It's said as if they're trying to convince themselves that dying would, indeed, he a pity. The other person looks at them, their eyes full of understanding, sigh also and then say "well at least we're not russians".
And THAT is what helps a Ukrainian soldier on.
Okay so uh this double breached containment and I'm really really scared because this was my second post on Tumblr dot com out of the two I made in total and now it has like 650 notes so I hope it'll make you guys happy to see my flatmate's mug that has The Phrase on it.
Bonus: the other side that says "what did I do to deserve this".

Applejack (Special Release) // Fallen, Evanescence
All I want to see is sophie pivoting to a con where her and parker are in a relationship and parker getting a little flustered by sophie's affections. Is that too much to ask??
<3 I love Miracle Molly so much <3
My second favorite Tynion creation at DC, after The Gardener <3
Batman: Doesn't it make you feel bad that you could be stealing from your own parents?
Miracle Molly: PFFFTTTTT
NO
SUCKS FOR THEM TO SUCK, BITCH
Can’t fucking stand the way she talks about them, tbh. They’re hated for doing important work that benefits everyone and people always forget that they have families that care about them.
So I think it’s really unfair to compare them to rich people. Vultures deserve more respect.
You had us going in that first half :D
