The Dozen is the last generation of the Twelve Protectors, unknown to society, from Reality-II, who were granted at birth by the Higher Powers — Eve Grow (Spirit of Nature) and Lilith Decay (Spirit of Death) — an emotional bond with one another and special abilities to protect the world from the apocalypse. Their abilities are not magic, but psychophysical kinesis, tied to the control of one of the Four Elements:

• Fire went to the principled Agnes Flame, the sociable Roman Newton, and the passionate Salma Cortez;

• Air went to the dreamy Angelica Fly, the reliable Scott Wind, and the reserved Jason Humble;

• Water went to the caring Ashley Fauna, the sensitive Sarah Wave, and the straightforward Chester Capa;

• Earth went to the brave Vanessa Smith, the friendly Sasha Terra, and the narcissistic Paul Connolly.

However, this kinesis does not make the Twelve Protectors all-powerful. It has strict limitations, determined by external factors (the laws of physics and chemistry) and internal ones (the body's and mind's resources).

The true strength of The Dozen lies in the emotional bond within the group. It is this bond that acts as the glue of reality, mending the fabric of space and time. Its weakening poses a direct threat to the integrity of reality and leads to the end of the world.

Despite their mission, The Dozen is not a disciplined squad of superheroes, but rather a dysfunctional found family. Clear roles within the team are absent and largely nominal, with the exception of Agnes Flame, who was almost unanimously elected as the leader. Yet what truly matters is not this, but the loyalty the members of The Dozen have for one another — a loyalty that persists despite all conflicts and disagreements. It is this devotion, not battles against evil (which they have never had), that helps them keep the fabric of reality relatively intact.

Nevertheless, the Twelve Protectors do have a physical enemy: General Brenton Joyce. Mistakenly gifted at birth by the Higher Powers with the ability to control space and time, he used this gift to hasten the apocalypse by tearing the fabric of reality. Currently, the General is neutralized and imprisoned in a prison without space and time, from which he can escape only in one case: if the emotional bond of The Dozen weakens so much that a breach forms in the fabric of reality.
