yeah the thing is I just don't agree with that and think it's a pretty shallow if not outright incorrect criticism of these shows; they flatly wear the influence from things outside of children's cartoons on their sleeves and have premises or themes that are clearly aimed towards an adult audience regardless of swearing (do any of these even have a lot of swearing outside of hazbin hotel?). it's hard not to notice that this is a criticism that you only commonly see aimed at animated shows rather than similar live action genre comedies with quirky dialogue, ala good omens or what we do in the shadows or the good place or pushing daisies or whatever; the adultness of these things is never interrogated in the same way at all, there's a kind of inherent dismissal of animation as a medium here that doesn't allow any space for that broad genre of show to exist in adult animation unquestioned.

They're squeans I'm pretty sure! If they pop like that anyway. But the term for this kind of "symbol to refer to the general vibe of something in art" is called "Emanata" because it emanates from a person or object.

There has also been a negative feedback loop as fandoms come to realize that the constant access they have to creatives increases their leverage and power. It did not use to be the case that this was so; fandoms pre-internet largely worked under the assumption that they didn't really have any meaningful way to contact or influence the publication houses. Even if they sent a letter or a campaign of letters, they wouldn't even know whether the letters were being received or read unless the publishing house chose to respond. So, without that expectation of access, the drama usually stayed internal. Nowadays, with constant immediate feedback from creators and publishers, fans are ever more incentivized to act out to try to push an agenda, get attention, or just vent whatever is going on in their lives onto a face contractually obliged to be friendly to them.

It takes an extra step in our part, but this is part of what makes it effective. It's not one click, one reblog activism and it hits them where they care: their damn KPIs.

February 9, 2000 - The London Lesbian Avengers stopped the no. 15 bus in London's Piccadilly Circus, and painted it pink. This was done to demand the repeal of homophobic Section 28, and to protest the involvement of homophobic millionaire Brian Souter in a Scottish campaign against the repeal. Souter was also the owner of privatised bus company Stagecoach, operating route 15. Section 28 was finally repealed in England and Wales in 2003. [video]
