Tejuino - OCC Street Vendor

My first taste of Tejuino was back in Mexico. I was feeling adventurous, so I decided to try the light brown concoction my cousins were so eager to offer. I really enjoyed it, but when I returned to California, I couldn’t find this drink anywhere. I had completely forgotten about it until I found a vendor at OCC selling some. After three years, it still tasted amazing to me! This drink is made with semi-fermented corn dough, brown sugar, water, salt, lemon juice, and ice. Don’t be afraid of the ingredients! It might sound a bit odd, but I guarantee it’s flavorful. So instead of ordering your friendly cup of Horchata at any taqueria, ask if they have any Tejuino. You won’t regret it.
