Saturday Adventure: Trim Castle, St Mary’s Abbey and Newtown Abbey. It was a gorgeous morning so Hank and I headed out early. We drove a hour north to County Meath where Trim Castle, St Mary’s Abbey and Newtown Abbey are located. Gorgeous and totally worth the drive. The sheep were an added bonus along the riverwalk but did require Hank to be on leash the entire time. Bummer for him. Trim Castle is the largest Anglo-Norman fortification in Ireland. The Yellow Steeple was once the bell tower of St Mary’s Abbey dating back to 1368. Saturday Adventure: Sugarlump and Sugarloaf Way. So it turned out that the hike to the tippy top of Sugarloaf wasn’t actually part of the trail but I was so close that I couldn’t not do it. Therefore the treacherous path over boulders to the summit turned out to be a detour of my own making. The view was amazing and now I can say that I’ve hiked Sugarloaf so… worth it. And #hankthedog was a trooper the whole way! I have to say though that the best part of the hike was around Sugarlump on the way down. It was a gorgeous path through open fields. Saturday Adventure: Massey Woods. Today we explored the Massey Woods. At one point there was apparently a magnificent mansion here but all that remains are ruins of walled gardens and a saw mill. Saturday Adventure: Marlay Park Finally the 5k travel restriction has been lifted! Woot! We are now allowed to travel within the county within which we live. That means all of Dublin County is mine to explore. Today we headed to Marlay Park along with everyone else and their kitchen sink. Tons of people out and about today.
