The thing about being happy and being kind is that it is fucking hard. It is fucking hard not to be jaded and mean when you're tired and overworked. It is fucking hard to reach out to your friends to talk to them about subjects that bring them joy when you're buried up to your neck in terrible news. It is hard not to spend all your time complaining, not to feel like you're hitting your head against a wall when you try to make things better for yourself. Self care and radical joy are not instagrammable treat yourself moments, they are not the nice bath with the bubbles and the bath bomb, it's dragging yourself out of bed and into the shower when everything hurts and all you want to do is rot, and taking a second to breathe when the hot water hits to remind yourself right, I needed this. I love this. And then you go and you do the work. You call the doctor to get your meds. You send kind messages to your friends. You look for things in the world to be happy about, because if you don't constantly fight to tread water you will drown.

A lot of people will judge their compatibility with someone off things like “do they have hobbies” “are they funny” “are they ambitious” “what music do they like” literally whatever the fuck. But even though someone could check all those boxes, a connection can never be appropriately formed if the answer to “do they make me feel safe” is ambivalent and unclear. Always ask yourself “do I feel safe around this person” when forming both friendships and relationships. Ask if you’re a safe person for them too. How cool a person is can never make up for lack of emotional safety on either end.

if youre not black especially a black american, you should not be using the term amerikkka/amerikkkan. point blank period. appropriating 'woke' as a shorthand perjorative or in the case of 'progressive' whites/non blacks as a funny memey term to classify 'anything republicans don't like' was bad enough. but the fact that there are namely non black people using this term created by black americans SPECIFICALLY referencing an AMERICAN white supremacist terrorist organization that SPECIFICALLY TARGETS BLACK AMERICANS to refer to indigenous and black people in the US in your argument to claim that people colonized in this country are just as imperialistic as the white europeans that invaded this land and their descendants is a new level of racist ignorance. y'all are actually the turbo hitlerites believe it or not.
