Diary of a Cat Fosterer

We had a kitty drama the other day, and this beautiful black kit was the unfortunate but lucky gal in question... she got herself tangled, then mangled, in the beads at the bottom of our blinds. If it was anywhere but her leg, it could have been so... so much worse.

One update that has been long overdue... re: meet the kits - small black and white one with the corona of white.

This little fella was shy way back when his first entry was written but, boy-oh-boy, did he come out of shell! He is still the smallest kitty of the litter but that doesn't put him off.

Kits are growing up so fast! Here's big black and white male taking his first big-cat bites!

We've seen two of them eating now (both the black and white ones, oddly enough) and all but one using the litter tray like good cats (with a few missfires on the paper at the side).

Poirot (mum) is leaving them on their own more often, they are climbing up furniture and falling off on a regular basis. Kittens really do bounce.

...He-ey that's... not nice, bro *yawn* Eh, I can't be bothered fighting... feeling... very... sleepy...

Oh c'mon, it's true! How are you supposed to get on the blog when all you do is sleep?!

Hnf, don't get suckered in. She may look cute, but she's really terribly boring. Not like me! I like my life with a bit of adventure!

So a bit of a strange update here - meet the black kittens:

At the beginning we couldn't tell them apart, then when we could, we still couldn't in the pictures :|

They are seperable, but not often, they do tend to sleep together and play together... well, when little cutie there decides to wake up. Larger one is far more gregarious but he doesn't quite realise just how adorable his little sis is! She is sweet and mild-mannered and loves her siblings.

Before they all started becoming more active, she was often found at the bottom of the pile of kitten limbs and bodies; we think secretly she enjoys being sat on. Lovely little weirdo. 

Been away for so long! Flu and trying to sort out a new fosterer (aka housemate) has meant I've been terrible updating this. Back now though, and about to introduce the black kits shortly! :o

The kittens have got to 'that stage' now. Tearing around the floor and our clothes like 'little mentalists' as Jo nicknamed them. It is endearingly meant, of course, though they have sharp tiny claws!

They still totter and fall over themselves, and they have not quite got the understanding that bits sticking out from under them are in fact they're own feet or tails!

Kits do however try and clean themselves inspite of this lack of perception, big black and white being the first to do so. He was also the first to try a piece of food, though it was not chowed down: 'He did not inhale' as it were...

Poirot had a terrible old time of it with diarrhoea, but it settled down when we introduced kitten food which we bought in. The Society for Abandoned Animals of course cover costs and supply food etc., but they, like Poirot, also have such a hard time of things when Kitten Season comes rolling around... It's why contributions are so important.

It means the cats and kittens get fed properly in their, or our, care.

Had a look at the kits today and from what I can tell, hurriedly, there may be 2 girls and 3 boys.

Both Black and White kits are possibly boys (rambunctious one almost definitely), plus the larger of the Black kittens - both of which are still to be introduced.

Oh, h-hi there...

I'm the other black and white kitten; and I'm, um, nothing at all like my black and white sibling really. I'm a little quiet, and small, and shy. Though... I do still like to have a look around and I am getting bolder, honest!

Even after a few days there is a marked difference in the kits. Two have started to attempt washing themselves, hilarious when silver-grey gets hir hind leg stuck and rolls back on itself like a weeble. One of the black kits, yet to be introduced, appears to be fairly sure of themselves, another wee hiss or two and the first to lick itself.

Hey.

I'm a bit of a rebel; intelligent, rambunctious and somewhat demanding. I'm the first to wobble over and the first to attempt to hiss - what's this strange finger poking at me about, any way? I am also the only one been heard to purr so far too, but let's not ruin the reputation...

Always trying out new things, I'm a natural favourite with my charm and obvious good looks. I'm still mildly unsteady on my feet, but use my environment to my advantage. When my muscles develop further, there will be no stopping me.

My name is Claudia. I am a young cat myself, some might call me a teenage mum, but I'm not here to be political; all I care about is my latest litter of kittens - and I'm a good mom, if I do say so myself.

We were made homeless as our previous family was. They found themselves somewhere new, however, but my five babies are still too young to be re-homed. So, we got taken into the Society for Abandoned Animals and then quickly taken to our new cat foster parents.

We moved in with these three people a couple of days ago. I found it a bit strange, and could smell another cat around - she is not going to get at my kits! However, a large bowl of poached chicken later and I felt much more comfortable, even purring and demonstrating just how much of a good mom cat I can be, inspite only being 18 months old myself!

This is my second litter of kittens too...

I think it's about high time I get neutered.

They are only one week old though, so I've got some time to settle first.

Eli and Jo, two of the new people in our lives, kept on chuckling as I searched the area around me. Apparently I sport a rather fetching mustache, in the style of a popular Detective, so much so that they have taken to calling me 'Poirot'...
