Just ordered a bunch of stuff for our next costumes: Twenty-four 4" paper mache cones, a hundred 25mm spikes, some foam putty, smooth styrofoam balls in both 1/2" and 1" sizes, and a large styrofoam half-sphere. We've had a day to decompress after Anime California now. It was a very good smooth convention, with almost everything going as well as it could have. We were a bit out of the loop in the weeks leading up to the con, so we weren't staffing game shows like we typically do. Instead, our good friend Jason Proto brought us on board the AMVs department. It was nice change of pace especially since the bulk of our work was pre-convention stuff. That's not to say we didn't get our hands in the game show cookie jar. We had Anime Jeopardy on Friday and it was a full room (almost overflowing at one point). Tons of laughs during it, like when a guy was asked to list Saitama's daily work out and forgot some of it, despite wearing a shirt listing them all. In an ideal world, we'd love to stay on game show staff while also staffing AMVs (at least when Jason is heading them). We'll see what happens. We definitely would like to run two days of Jeopardy next time: a regular game on Friday, then doubles on Saturday (where there's two people per team instead of just one). And obviously there's things like Scavenger Hunt, Chess, and Be the Meme that we also love running. A couple small shout outs. Pleasently surprised to see Z's niece Keir Cosplays there, glad she's feeling better. Ran into Ryan a few times, we haven't been able to hang out with him lately and miss him. Preecha should send that picture he took of us. Nice to see Ernie and Allison. Had a nice small chat with Mikal. Also, thanks to Jose and Sam for finding an HDMI-MDP cord we left behind. We'll be attending Long Beach Comic Con next month, and Los Angeles Comic Con (aka The Convention Formerly Known as Comikaze) in October. We want to make a graphic for advertising Anime Jeopardy, like on Facebook & Twitter, before a con. The problem is that neither of us have any good ideas. The classic thought is a quick yellow text on blue background, but that's super boring. We also, sadly, don't have any good audience shots to use. We mentioned this on Zero's Twitter account, but wanted to go into more depth here. We went and saw Criss Angel last night. It was of course a fun and very entertaining show, and even exceeded our expectations. However, the biggest surprise of the night had nothing to with the illusions. After the show was over, Criss and Shaunyl brought their son Johnny on stage. Neither of us have ever followed Criss's personal life, so we were heartbroken when Criss explained that Johnny was diagnosed with leukemia before he was even two years old. More than that, we were surprised by how much Criss has done for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Criss & Johnny presented the "Criss Angel Magic Wand Award" to Edgar (apologies that we forgot his last name), an award in Angel's name given to people who have gone above and beyond in service of Make-A-Wish. We've mentioned it before, but both of us were Make-A-Wish children, so it obviously strikes a chord when we learn someone so famous has been so involved. We're so glad that THIS was the show we went to see. Had we gone to see Mindfreak Live another night, we'd have missed this very special event. The only negative thing that we can say is that it's a shame we couldn't find more information on the award, and on Edgar. We'd have loved to linked to a news article about the whole event.
