It is the ship that is present everywhere. Boy meets girl. Girl meets boy. Boy likes girl. Girl hates boy’s guts. Boy and girl fighting, you know, flirting. Boy improves. Girl notices. They fall in love. Honestly I think this trope is overused at this point. But the reason why I like Jily is not because of the cliche. I like it because of the mystery. Rowling sets up two versions of James and Lily: one as Hogwarts students and two as parents. But she doesn’t link them. That’s what interests me. We know more about Snape and Lily than Jily. A thousand questions come to my mind. How did they get together? What happened? Why were their patronuses complementary? The thing is, we’ll never know (unless we finally get the prequel).

Romione

Rowling does love her cliches! And so do we. Romione is one of the best developed ships. We see them becoming friends, liking each other and finally falling in love. It really pisses me off how Rowling dissed her own creation as if it was nothing. It was not nothing. Ron and Hermione are a testament to opposites attract and best friend love. Ron is everything Hermione’s not and still they work. I agree that there are numerous issues between them- Ron’s insecurity, Hermione’s lack of empathy- but throughout the series both of them help each other overcome these. Ron becomes comfortable in his own skin and Hermione learns to process her emotions in a healthy way. And their fights are so relatable? I’ve seen people criticize either Ron or Hermione for behaving harshly when they dated others. But I don’t. Because I get it; I know that baseless anger, hurt and jealousy which threatens to consume you when you like someone. Love is not logical and this ship shows it perfectly.

Them protecting each other during the Battle of Hogwarts: ‘Dean made the most of the Death Eater’s momentary distraction, knocking him out with a stunning Spell; Dolohov attempted to retaliate, and Parvati shot a Body Bind Curse at him.’ (DH32)
