Her Wings

Would they be light and delicate?

Glittering and reflective? Like dragonflies dancing on the ripples of a lily pond. Or vibrant like the butterflies flitting across flower fields.

Would they be feathered and soft? Rustling and plumed? Like a dove singing to the morning light. Or an owl in silent vigil of the night.

Would they be leathery and smooth?Sporadic and strong? Like a bat patrolling the stars. Those stars she loved so much.

Is it her wings I hear in my dreams? Is there something I should believe in?

What will my wings be? When I join her. Or are we now lost to the vastness of time, space, life, and death.

I hear the beating of her wings.

Hoping for the owl’s call

For the moon to come and play

For this is your season

My sweet sister gone

In my castle of obsidian walls 

No harm can reach here 

Behind crystalized shield 

Leave me to comforts of shadows 

And calming silence bliss 

In my castle of obsidian walls 

Your spitting words cannot move a tear 

Glinting silver, sword I wield  

Kinship forced to decompose 

All this torment, frustration, strain, will not be missed

In my castle of obsidian walls 

Armor shimmers down the halls

Gentle words never kinder

Cold disappointment a constant reminder

So I build my obsidian eternal 

Tower of the nocturnal

Now at twenty two years older

Discover how I’m much bolder

Whisping by in a blur

Hearing mews of greeting

Golden green eyes peering

Always at my heels

Faithful companion in all appeals

Small kitty-purring on my cheek

Interrupted by her ever present squeak

No better bathroom guard compares

Nor surveyor of repairs

Some say she’s just a cat

But I promise she’s so much more than that

Speaking all appreciation,

While anxiety builds dreads.

All you have left is Hope

Would you cry with tears of happiness?

Would you choke with throat burning?

Or would you look away, ashamed and coy?

If the world stopped turning, would your life be full of tenderness?

Live this moment as if it were your last.

You will never regret doing the things that make you laugh.

Or loving the ones that make your heart soar.

So always wear your best.

Hold onto that silly photograph.

And love with all your soulful core.
