From the article:
Black Soldier Fly (BSF) farming could provide a scalable solution to malnutrition and environmental degradation, following the launch of the worldâs largest community-owned BSF farm in Madagascar, suggests a new study. The research, led by Health In Harmony and Madagascar Biodiversity Center, found strong local acceptance of insect-based foods in communities near the Manombo Special Reserve. Surveys across 70 households showed 95% of young people responded positively to BSF-based products, while 90% of participants said they would be willing to farm the insects themselves. The findings highlight BSF larvae as a nutrient-dense, low-impact food source that can be produced using organic waste, generating both protein and fertiliser. Researchers said the model could reduce reliance on forest resources, a key driver of deforestation, while improving food security through year-round production.

Say you break your ankle. You could know everything there is to know intellectually about the injury. Even with this vast knowledge, you will still experience physical pain.
Now take this logic and apply it to things like ADHD, autism, clinical depression, and other less visible/divergent disabilities. You cannot think your way out of feeling.
That is to say: you are not a bad, lazy, or selfish person for struggling, even if you know why you are struggling.
Genuinely, thank you so much for this.
Daddy Long-Legs: unlike spiders, these arachnids can eat solid food, and they have an omnivorous diet that includes mushrooms, berries, and seeds, along with invertebrate prey
Harvestmen, otherwise known as daddy long-legs (not to be confused with the cellar spiders of family Pholcidae, which are also described as daddy long-legs) bear a striking resemblance to spiders, but they actually belong to a separate order of arachnids known as Opiliones. These strange-looking creatures have eight legs, but only two eyes, and their body segments are largely fused together, giving the body a noticeably rounded, pill-like appearance.
Above: Metagryne bicolumnata, commonly known as the bunny harvestman
There are roughly 6,700 known species of harvestman, but researchers estimate that a total of more than 10,000 species may currently exist. Their physical features vary greatly from one species to the next; some harvestmen have crab-like claws, spikes, thorny legs, elongated bodies, colorful features, or cryptic markings. Most of them are equipped with long, spindly legs, but there are some that have shorter, stockier limbs instead.

Unlike spiders, harvestmen have an omnivorous diet that includes fungi, fruit pulp, seeds, pollen, lichen, algae, and invertebrate prey, and they are capable of consuming solid food, whereas spiders are typically carnivorous and feed only on fluids.

As this article explains:
Harvestmen consume mushrooms, fruit pulp, seeds, and seed appendages more frequently than spiders probably because they are âsolid food feeders," which means they can ingest solid tissues by biting off small pieces. In turn, spiders are âfluid feedersâ and feed on vegetable matter most frequently in the form of fluids (e.g. nectar, stigmatic exudate, plant sap, and honey dew) rather than fungal or plant tissues.
Above: genus Marthana
When given a choice between fresh fruit or invertebrate prey, some harvestmen actually prefer the fruit:
Schaus et al. carried out a feeding trial in which the Neotropical harvestman Erginulus clavotibialis was given a choice between fresh pineapple and live invertebrate prey. This harvestman demonstrated a distinct preference for fruit over the invertebrate prey.

Harvestmen are also much more social than spiders, and the males of some species have been known to engage in paternal care, which is a trait that rarely occurs among arthropods:
Single fatherhood is the rarest form of parental care in nature. Still, males are often the sole caretakers of progeny among a number of species of daddy long-legs, also known as harvestmen. In these species, fathers are exclusively responsible for guarding eggs that females lay on the undersides of leaves; the males remain on the eggs nearly constantly for months.

When threatened, harvestmen often bob up and down erratically in an effort to confuse their attackers. They also have several other defense mechanisms, including pungent, foul-tasting secretions, the ability to "play dead," and autotomy, which is the ability to discard one or more of their own limbs in order to escape from predators.
Above: the photo at the top shows an unidentified harvestman from family Cosmetidae, while the photo on the bottom shows a species from genus Gnomulus
Harvestmen are completely harmless to humans. Their mouthparts are far too small to penetrate human skin, and contrary to popular belief, they do not have the "world's deadliest venom" -- in fact, they don't produce any venom at all.

Heatwave Recipe Recommendations
The heatâs been brutal this summer but we still gotta eat! If youâre like me, heat might suppress your appetite, and the last thing any of us want is to sweat over a hot stove and oven when itâs already boiling outside. Here are some of my favorite hot-weather recipes to keep hydrated and fed with when the weather is unbearable! (All recipes should be un-paywalled).
NYTâs best gazpacho (lives up to its name!!)
Persian cold cucumber soup (if you like tzatziki you will like this!)
Eric Kimâs cold noodles with tomato (infinitely riffable Korean flavor profile â for a creamier and less brothy take, try these cold sesame noodles too)
Vietnamese chicken and herb salad (this is an excellent time to get a rotisserie chicken so you donât have to turn the oven on)
Radish sandwiches with butter and salt (and in a similar vein, if you dig this flavor combo you should try this Polish cottage cheese dip on some good rye bread or even crackers)
Itâs still a little early in the season, but you can never go wrong with a BLT (or, if you donât eat bacon, try this tomato furikake sandwich in its place)
Infinite iterations of pasta salad! You can use anything you got but here is a template I like.
Assorted dense bean salads. This back pocket canned salad is a weird combo of jarred ingredients but it slaps, this hoagie-inspired one is super satisfying, and cowboy caviar is a classic for a reason.
Poke bowls! Canned tuna mixed with some kewpie mayo and sriracha is a budget-friendly riff on the usual ahi and makes everything taste like a spicy tuna roll, but use whatever proteins you like, this is more of a loose template.
Please feel free to add some of your own favorite summer recipes in the replies and comments! Weâll get through this together. đ¤đ¤đ¤
If you can buy pre cooked or canned beets at the store, chĹodnik (beet yogurt soup) is a great choice. You can leave out the radishes if you canât get them.
I also love sardines on fresh bread and butter with assorted vegetables. Buy the fanciest canned sardines you can afford but even regular ones are pretty good. Plus, very healthy!
This requires cooking some of its ingredients but here's another eastern European cold soup that I like:
Cold summer soup Okroshka is made with boiled and fresh vegetables, eggs, fresh summer herbs, and meat. Perfect option for hot summer days
I make it vegetarian by leaving out the meat and adding some white beans + upping the seasoning
Korean icy cold noodles are so savory and refreshing, they are an awesome way to cool down in the summer but I eat them all year round. Why?
its a bit elaborate, but im a big fan of mul-naengmyeon! its a cold noodle soup :] maangchi has a cute video for it here
they had 19 year old /pol/ users going through all federal spending and deleting anything where the words were too big to understand

SERVICE DOG PSA
So today I tripped. Fell flat on my face, it was awful but ultimately harmless. My service dog, however, is trained to go get an adult if I have a seizure, and he assumed this was a seizure (were training him to do more to care for me, but we didnât learn I had epilepsy until a year after we got him)
I went after him after I had dusten off my jeans and my ego, and I found him trying to get the attention of a very annoyed woman. She was swatting him away and telling him to go away. So I feel like I need to make this heads up
If a service dog without a person approaches you, it means the person is down and in need of help
Donât get scared, donât get annoyed, follow the dog! If it had been an emergency situation, I could have vomited and choked, I could have hit my head, I could have had so many things happen to me. Weâre going to update his training so if the first person doesnât cooperate, he moves on, but seriously guys. If whatâs-his-face could understand that lassie wanted him to go to the well, you can figure out that a dog in a vest proclaiming it a service dog wants you to follow him
[Image: Post by Jim Campbell ( @/JustJimWillDo ); transcript follows.]
I honestly didnât know that I was supposed to follow a service dog in a vest if it approached me by itself.
I do now.
So do you.
The world is a slightly better place. Well done us.
