“it’s not just for right now. if she gets custody then that’s it, she controls how often you see her and for how long…do you really want that?” bria had always been the type to act when it was needed, when her gut told her it was the right thing. she couldn’t quite understand the reluctance nova held over fighting. “selfish? for what, for wanting your kid and for wanting to live your life too? i know things aren’t great, but they can get better. you need to be better for nyx.” if a child wasn’t a motivator to pull back just a little then what was? “who says what the best looks like? if you can look after her and take care of her then she’s better off with you, her mom.” 

This really wasn’t fair, Ana thought, gaze still caught by the other. Amara knew what those words would do to her… but the blonde could hardly complain, because it succeeded in making her weak in every conceivable way. She took a few more sips from the bottle, before shifting in place and letting her tongue run over her lips to catch a drop. Ana could be all bark, giving anyone a piece of her mind who asked for it, but Amara knew exactly how to get her to behave– and especially in her condition, she found herself wanting to be good for the other. “You do still want me?” She whispered after a moment, voice sounding far more vulnerable than it had moments ago.

Arguments come in specific categorizes. Ones that need to happen in order to attempt rectifying the problem. Then there’s the ones that need to die immediately. He’s been settled firmly on the latter, pushing away from dealing with all this stress. Work isn’t enough for him is it? No, he has to have it dumped on him here back home or whatever arrangement this is now. That word sounds so damn cynical, cruel almost. He knows that’s not what this is between them at all. Yet there is something lacking. Something he calls distance and frustration barreled down on his shoulders but still he listened to Ember’s words like uncovered truths. As a journalist he has a need to uncover everything. The mystery of this is deeper than he can convey.

“Do you think I’m going to acknowledge that when you call me cold? I’m far from cold, Ember! I’m dealing with enough without you -” he paused, clenching his jaw before releasing a breath. “I do want you. I DO.” Why does he feel he’s trying to convince himself? Of course he wants this. An apathetic look assumes position. These words aren’t profound to her and they hardly bring solace, anything but, even. I’m dealing with enough without you. This is always the argument when they fall out of love, isn’t it? Blue eyes watch the wine coat the inside of her glass as it swirls and she sighs heavily. She’s unamused, wishing for once that she hadn’t the courage to open up about her brooding. “Desire may be a two way street, but it seems we’re traveling the same direction, Landon. I’m always chasing you, right?” She rises to her feet, sauntering over towards her beau, a man she’s admired for a while now, a man who’s disappointed her for a while now.

“What’s got you so caught up, Lan? You never talk to me anymore-- you’re always working on your new story. Despite that, the passion has left, hasn’t it? Desire can’t be a two way street when it’s just not there anymore.” This isn’t to say she didn’t desire him. God, she did. This was her first attempt at ever communicating the disappointment. Relationships ago, Ember would seek attention elsewhere and keep quiet about it. She thought Landon deserved the decency it took not to do that.

                  “what texts are you even – “ and then it hit her. “oh. those. i mean, it was messing around, like teasing. i got into the fight with matt and i completely forgot about those, i’m sorry.” ruby shrugged and finished off her drink.

      she stopped mid-sip of her drink when andrea spoke and ruby snorted, “i had no intention of fucking you. i just needed someone to talk to, that’s all.”
