Happy Spring

It was a Saturday afternoon; families were shopping on Madison Avenue, couples were strolling up 58th Street and we, well we were in 5” heels wearing a rendition of “daytime” party attire. While this may seem out of place it's actually quite the opposite; we were once again being delivered to LAVONY, but this time it was for their infamous brunch party to celebrate my birthday.

If you’re looking for a place to celebrate a birthday and can swing a bit of a larger budget (or you know someone who knows someone), we highly recommend you clear your Saturday afternoon schedule and head to LAVO brunch… 

Hidden behind the seemingly quaint doors and playfully aggressive doormen lies an unexpected daytime playing ground. When you first walk in to the restaurant, you may think that the brunch is just like any other, as the room may be seemingly calm, but don’t let it fool you. As soon as the hung-over patrons have their first glass of chosen poison and the headlining DJ gets the party going, everything will change. A bella bottle waitress in funk-sexy attire will approach you and while asking you what you’d like to drink, she’ll hand out “I heart LAVO” sunglasses and a handful of glow sticks. If you’re lucky, you may even get the gift of Lavo branded lip-gloss that lights up upon opening; so very convenient!

  As the room will begin to fill and the music will get a little louder, the crowd will start to come to life. Your anticipation of what is next to come may begin to take over but sit back and let LAVO take control, as shortly thereafter, with the sound of a whistle, the birthday brunch party will begin.

During our experience, a parade of staff wearing sunglasses, blowing whistles, trailing with sparklers and carrying a smoking/glowing ice bucket made their way to our table to make it rain in confetti and glitter. They were carrying a large sign with my name on it that was blinking lights and read “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” written out in purple and zebra lettering. And as though that wasn’t enough, upon arrival to our table they presented us with a purple, cheetah printed, magnum bottle of Rosé Dom Perignon and a chocolate mousse cake signed with Love, from LAVO.

What makes that scenario unique is that every detail was customized. I came to find out that the manager actually had a pre-screen interview with J to find out exactly what I liked. We were so excited that we could barely eat the omelet pizzettes and tiers of oysters in front of us. Speaking of food, there is no fail option on the menu and while the focus may not be on eating, you absolutely must try something. We highly recommend Beet Salad, Penne Vodka, and of course, the Truffle Pomme Frites. As you are eating, dancers in scantly clad attire will begin to filter onto platforms throughout the restaurant, which will encourage eve ryone to soon get up onto any risen platform nearby and start dancing…chairs, banquettes and tables encouraged. A mermaid being carried in a bathtub might float on by, sprinkling glitter onto the crowd as the Big Bad Wolf may make an appearance  for A-Track’s song.

  LAVO as a whole is a production of sheer brilliance, where the beautiful and unordinary join together, making it completely acceptable to make neatly set tables a dancing ground on a Saturday afternoon. For the next four hours you and your party will be the center of attention and the more outrageous you are, the more they will like you. Until about 6:00PM, LAVO will make you feel like the world is yours.

The best part is, you’ll have sunglasses to hide behind when you depart so as not to have to join forces with the rest of the public and whatever you do not remember will be documented, as you are likely be photographed by in-house photographers or Kirill Bichutsky of kirillwashere.com…we certainly did.

We spent the afternoon with a few people we had recently met during our Miami trip just lounging poolside. As we were leaving, one of the guys went out of their way to tell us that they really enjoyed our company. According to Mr. Jay, we were one of the most polite groups of girls he had encountered. We wondered how so as to us, a general “please and thank you” is causality and we thought that was the norm but apparently not...

“You girls said please and thank you the entire time while most girls feel entitled to everything and are like ‘Feed me Bitch.’ You even went out of your way to clean up after yourselves,” the boys told us, “it was something we’ve never seen before.”

Say what? Ironically this was not the first time we have gotten this compliment which means that this is actually a real problem with girls. Perhaps it was because of how we were raised or that we’re all genuinely nice people but whatever the reasoning may be, we were honestly appalled to hear that our fellow females think they’re entitled and are so disrespectful. What gives you the right?

As a girl in this scene, it’s no secret that you can have the opportunity to indulge, often fully accommodated, but if this is the case, you should always be grateful for it and make sure that the person who has provided whatever it may be (it can be a gesture as small as buying you a drink) gets the deserved gratitude – and I am not referring to sex! While it is completely fine to set high standards, nothing material or monetary should ever be an expectation, especially without gratitude, bottom line.

It's New Years Eve and just another perfect beach day concluded by a perfect tan. We run into Sofia Vergara on our walk down from our room and discover that Paris Hilton had just checked in for the night. It’s a scene outside of our hotel as Beamer, Benz or Bentley continuously drop off socialites from around the globe and paparazzi stake out on the beach next to us....

We do some shopping on Ocean Drive then head back to the hotel to get all done up to blend in with the crowd. After hair and make up we order room service and a few bottles of champagne, which we take to our balcony to watch Afrojack perform at our pool.  

We’re 1 hour away from midnight and driver Larry drops us off outside of The Shelborne for EMM Groups countdown. As we exit the vehicle, a belligerent girl tries to get into our car and we realize she is one of our less favored fellow NYC nightlife goers. Sorry doll, the limo is ours for the night.

Greg Bach, manager of SL, guides us and the rest of our group through the crowd, which consists of hundreds of people poolside and we’re taken to a private Cabana that has its own bathroom (yes that was one of the best parts). The Cabanas on either side of us hosts Lance Bass and Victoria Secret models among many others and we ring in the New Year with a live performance by Lauren Hill and Nas, fireworks in the distance and SL “NYC to MIA” sunglasses.

Some friends invited us to a pool party at Plunge at the Gansevoort’s rooftop. We sipped mojitos in the pool while listening to some sweet beats and did some serious people watching.

We wake up at 6:30 am leaving us with approximately 2 hours of sleep and claim real-estate at the pool. Our dear friend Troy of TheTroyReport put us in touch with a friend who invited us to LIV for Tiesto. Again? Ok fine… Take a stroll around Lincoln Road and go to dinner at Aura, which happens to have amazing Italian food for reasonable cost and then head to the Fontainebleau for Tiesto. We find a mob scene outside much like the one at Lavo except larger and less civilized…which was also the impression we got of LIV itself. They weren't very select with their crowd, definitely not as much as they are in NYC. Instead of girls dancing on couches it's a display of guys and they're allowed to smoke in the club. On the up side, they gave out glow sticks with Tiesto's face on them, a little weird but kind of hilarious.

4G Network (and extended Network) has just returned from a week long party in South Beach to celebrate NYE2012.

As 4G Network touched down in MIA, we received a text from our Extended Network girls who had arrived before us that pretty much sets the tone for the rest of the vacation…"Cuba Gooding Jr. is staying at our hotel. We just met him at the pool with DJ Blaze; he would like for us to join him for his pre-game party in his suite tonight."
