Reunion(s suck ass)

"You look good," he said, the calm woman seeming to fall out of her shell before climbing back in. "I was in Japan taking care of business and I came back by boat. And I borrowed a bike." If he was unnerved by her faltering and the uncertainty that wafted off her, he didn’t mention it, just kept looking at her with that easy gaze that came when he was in a place that he considered home.

Much as he disliked it, he had to admit that the place had grown on him. There were definitely ups and downs (most of those downs being the stupid kids crawling all over the place) but wasn’t that what any home was about? The things that made it yours… and the people…

He smiled kindly at her before taking a step in the direction she had been headed, not yet able to stop himself from looking. She’d always been a sight for sore eyes and he was nothing if not sore. “You still teaching, then? Thought you might have given up after some of the idiots we’ve had through here.”

"Japan sounds lovely. I hope you didn't cause too much destruction." Jean smiled. She offered no comment on the fact that she had also been 'out of town' for quite some time, nor did she offer any locations. She too considered this her home, or as close as she could come to one and it was the only logical place for her to come back to. For Jean it was the people more than the place that cemented her feelings for it and without Scott or Xavier she had felt hopelessly lost. Logan's presence, although it had thrown her off guard, did a good deal to make her feel as if perhaps the world hadn't spun completely off its axis.

Falling into easy step with the much taller man she searched his eyes with a knowing gaze looking for familiar emotions. "Working as a counselor, yes." she nodded and smiled. "Idiots? Now, now, Logan, I believe that at one point you too were...a challenged youth." she laughed lightly. "Besides, what else would I do with my time?" As they reached the teacher's lounge Jean opened the door and held it for Logan.

"I'm hardly good at domestic activities and the world doesn't need saving at the moment." she chuckled. "Although I probably shouldn't say that."

Reunion(s suck ass)

If he were a poet, there would probably something to be said for the soft curl of her hair, fire flowing like water over her shoulders. Or there would be a line about those eyes that were living entities in and of themselves, with a million emotions running through them and over her face when she saw him. Or maybe even a few lecherous lines about the way her top was fitting much too nicely for the number of male students around, which made him want to stand in front of her and growl.

But he wasn’t a poet, and Jean Grey was standing in front of him in all her redheaded glory and he felt, for the first time in a while, afraid. He didn’t want to face her and he honestly didn’t feel equal to it. It was one of the few times he actually wanted Scott around— if Cyclops was around, Logan would have a legitimate reason to avoid Jean outside of official team business. Scott, however, was missing again, as Logan had learned in the two hours he’d been back after he’d taken a shower and gotten food in his system.

He didn’t know what he was feeling, but emotions hadn’t ever been his forte. With a smile and relaxed posture that came too easily to him in her presence, he tilted his head at her in greeting from across the hall. “Hey there, Red.”

As a little girl Jean had often dreamt of being an actress. With ease and grace she would sweep across stage and silver screen reciting lines and performing for crowds in their multitudes. She found it horrendously ironic that now she acted every day, a smooth facade of serenity that she kept up for students and teammates rather than crowds and instead of lines she recited happy greetings and rehearsed responses.

Stepping out of her office Jean had a calm look affixed upon her face, a smooth smile graced her lips and she nodded to familiar faces. Underneath her heart was aching and her emotions roiling in a pitiful and painful tangle. When a familiar low voice rang out her head snapped towards it, the careful smile faltered and her eyes widened. "Logan?" she nearly dropped the handful of papers and folders that were carefully balanced in her arms.

Making her way across the hallway she sidestepped rowdy students to stand directly in front of the much taller man. "Logan. I....where...how?" she stuttered for a moment before finding her tongue, "Welcome back." she breathed softly. Her brow furrowed before she returned to her look of placid calm. Jean was incredibly thankful that he couldn't read her mind, and though she was desperate to reach out for answers she kept herself out of his thoughts, for the moment. "Where have you been?" her most pressing question fell from her lips with surprising urgency. Reaching out she placed a hand on his arm.

Homecoming :: Open Para

The large green duffel bag fell to the floor with a loud whump and Jean sighed audibly. Shuffling forwards she allowed herself to fall forwards onto her bed face first. The sun was setting and the last orange glows flickered in through her bedroom window bathing the room in a welcoming warmth. Jean groaned and flopped over onto her back. Dark circles sat heavily underneath her eyes and her usually well kept red curls flew haphazardly around her face. Yet, as she took in the room around her a smile tugged at her lips. For a moment Jean debated exactly how lazy she was feeling before pulling herself upright to unpack her bag the old fashioned way.

It was a full half an hour later when Jean had the laundry running, her things put away, and an idea of just how messy things could get when she wasn't around to insist upon vacuuming. Hopping into the shower Jean let the hot water cascade over her welcoming every drop. As her muscles relaxed she began to process her trip. Jean had been away for a good month, a month during which more had happened than usually occurred in a week. The majority of her trip had been spent picking up various loose ends that had been left after her last death. They always say that dying leaves an awful lot of paperwork, but it's coming back to life that leaves you with twice as much. In truth taking care of such matters had really been an excuse. It was something Jean had been meaning to do, and something that had to be done, but Jean had needed to get away. After attacking both Logan and Scott, she had needed time. Time not only to process, but time to evaluate just how much of a danger she was. During her entire trip she hadn't flown off the handle once, every moment had been careful self control. Jean finished rinsing the last of the soap out of her hair and stepped out of the shower and into the fogged up bathroom. Clearing a patch of fog from the mirror she stared at herself for a few seconds before hurriedly turning away.

Getting dressed it crossed her mind that she had run off rather suddenly and that she would have hell to pay in more than one case when it came to her friends and family. Purposefully making herself unreachable had been something she deemed necessary, although the consequences weren't going to be pretty. Clean and pressed clothes were a luxury as was her neatly combed (albeit wet) hair and Jean basked in the sensation of her favorite flannel shirt and sweatpants warm out of the dryer. Padding into the kitchen Jean knew exactly what the next order of business was, fresh coffee.

MmBAH! *which clearly meant ‘why yes, that would be splendid’. Or something like that. He grabs at the spoon, looking intrigued at the sticky batter on his hands, and intrigue turned to delight as he managed to shove the batter-y hands in his mouth. Hello, yumminess.*

*Jean laughs at the child and casually lets go of him to retrieve the current pan from the oven. He continues to hover in the exact space he has been, Jean keeping him there with no extra effort at all. As soon as she's set the pan down she wraps her arm around him again and grabs a rag to wipe up the drips of sticky stuff around his mouth* Just don't tell your Mommy that it was Aunt Jean who spoiled your dinner. If anyone asks it was Tony. *she laughs*

*crawls in to the kitchen, babbling and pausing by Jean, his smile half-coy and half-shy*

Stress made her hungry. She skipped along the sidewalk, happy to be away from her troubles. She turned around. “What’s your question?”

"You're in luck. The question has to do with the wedding. I was hoping you would be my flower girl?" Jean smiled at Molly. She wished she was young and carefree enough to skip. Approaching the small cafe she opened the door for Molly. A pair of small bells attached to the handle jingled gently. The barista waved at Jean with vague recognition, Jean nodded back. "What do you like? This place has a bit of everything. I'm a fan of their potato salad." she sniffed appreciatively at the smells of food.

Jean pulls back instantly when she sense that she's hurting him. Throwing herself at him once more she wraps her arms around his shoulders and clings to him desperately. She's put up every mental wall she has and Charles is completely blocked out to her, and she to him. But physically she is shaking and holding him as if she might fall off the face of the earth without him. "Charles........"

“That’s what adults always say,” Molly pouted, “But kids don’t listen when you just try to talk to them. They know they can still be jerks and there’s nothing anyone can really do about it.” She missed the days when she had a set of friend to stand by her and the authority to hit anyone who hurt her. Not that being with the Runaways was always easy, it was just simpler.

“I don’t know. Let’s not worry about it, okay?” She was tired of talking about her friendship problems. “What’s new with you? How’s the X Institute?”

Jean frowned a bit but let the subject drop. "New with me? Well, the engagement of course." Jean let a smile slip across her face. She lifted a hand from the steering wheel and wiggled her ring finger. "So there's lots of wedding planning." Slowing the car as they reached a stoplight Jean turned a bit to look at Molly, "The X Institute? Things go on." she nodded a bit. "But, speaking of the wedding, I have a question for you!"

While talking they had reached the small cafe that Jean had spoken of. She expertly parallel parked the car, spinning the wheel with a bit of flourish. Scott usually drove, which she enjoyed, but every now and then she liked to be behind the wheel. Popping open the car door she slid her sunglasses to the top of her head. "I think lunch is in order."
