Loki got their hands on a particularly fascinating object today. Supposedly, it had the power to transport someone across universes. While she wasn’t into much mischief anymore, retiring her title as the god of lies to be the god of stories, she still had her unsatisfied curiosity. That part of him never changed. So here they were, fiddling with the device in their apartment. Loki’s little house was well furnished and decorated, of course, filled with artifacts and some golden decor from Asgard. The walls had also been painted green and the floors were now black carpet. All in all, it was home to her.

But that was beside the point. He still needed to figure out how this new addition to his collection worked. Loki fidgeted with it more, their eyes narrowed with focus, until it suddenly emitted a blinding light. She instantly dropped the object on the floor and shielded her eyes with one arm.

“What in the—” He hissed, squinting. The god could barely see anything while the artifact worked its magic. And before Loki knew it, the light was gone, and they were standing on a random sidewalk in New York. She glanced around slowly, taking in all of the details. Firstly, the device was gone, leaving him potentially stranded. Secondly, they recognized this street. Could it have simply teleported her to another location…? “That’s disappointing.” He huffed, crossing his arms.

Suddenly it was afternoon and she was hanging off the side of her favorite sandwich shop, watching the people below. She likes seeing all the different colors passing by. And besides, they did make it very obvious when someone who wasn’t from 7310-1 passed through, with the world’s colors sliding off of them and never sticking quite right. Though now she thought about it, Recluse didn’t know if that was something most folk noticed, since nobody seemed particularly phased by the stranger.

Abruptly, someone leaped off a roof and began to walk alongside them. Loki gave the stranger a glance, their eyebrows furrowing slightly. They smiled soon after, however, providing a polite wave to... Whoever this was.

She winces and her words rush out a bit quicker as she realizes how rude that sounded. “And I’m not saying that we’re off-limits, or implying that you specifically are trouble or anything. Just being cautious. I’m sure you can understand that, right?”

It’s raining. Of course it’s raining. Recluse has had a hard time with temperature regulation since she was bitten, and usually Tessa would just stay inside, under a pile of blankets. But her parents are out and Emma and VICE are busy, and she’s antsy, so instead she puts on a second long-sleeve shirt and a warmer pair of leggings and dons the mask again.

It’s cold, and it’s wet, and Recluse is pissed. Two separate muggers had asked her why she was out on her day off when she stopped them. Apparently, her aversion to the rain was known. Not that she tried very hard to keep it secret.

On top of that, her hoodie is soaked through, and the yarn of her mask is starting to go the same way. If it weren’t for the rubber face shell she wears over her nose and mouth under the mask, she’d be breathing in water. Her hands and feet are cold. She’s cold.

The rain limits visibility and sound, and makes swinging unsafe, since she can’t trust her webs to stick where she want them, or even at all. That severely cuts down the range she can actually patrol. She decides it’s better to stick to one of the worse areas. Further from home, but more people to help.

She doesn’t realize how much the low temperature is slowing her down until she finds herself completely missing a jump that should have been as easy as breathing. Though, come to think of it, breathing is starting to get kind of hard too.

With some effort, she climbs back down the building and tucks herself against the dumpster. Maybe she could have just a little rest. Just for a minute… she can get back to patrol soon. Later.

Oh. Speaking of menaces.

Loki wanted to cut through an alleyway as a shortcut. It seemed someone else was already taking residence here, though, as he spotted the spider person against the dumpster. He should probably ignore her and treck onwards; it wasn't his business, and he had enough cloaking spells on that she probably hadn't noticed him yet.

Unfortunately, he was trying to he good now, and as such had developed a pesky moral conscious. How annoying. With a sigh, he let go of the spells hiding him from view and crouched to the other's level.

She stumbled to her feet, finally able to see him properly. Ah. Danger. Everyone had seen footage from the attacks. Even if Recluse hadn’t, Loki emanated power. It glowed off of him, making the surrounding colors swirl in watercolor hues.

There are definitely a few differences between the Loki of this world and the Loki in front of Recluse. This one has a different face shape, different horns, different clothes. His voice is not the one spoken during the invasion, his stature is slightly less. He is still clearly a Loki, though.

"You're saying most would leave a teen to freeze to death in the rain? That's quite sad." By the tone, it's obvious that's not what he really means. "Even at my worst, I would have--" he stops. "No, I wouldn't have. But I gained enough morals long before I got this far into my walk away from villainy to avoid such needless suffering. Perhaps your Loki is kinder than you know."

He can't help but be reminded of his past selves. The original Loki, who allowed his child self to be born into the world with full intention of using his husk to escape from death. He hopes the Loki of this world is, in fact, kinder.
