for other systems how do headmates usually get their names? I think i might be plural but I'm not sure if like thinking up random names for my headmates is the way to go or—
This is a question about how system members get their names.
A lot of us just come with names already but sometimes with OCtives we can do a little research.
Picking names, or nicknames, for headmates is not an evil thing, so no worries if you want to. But if you get bad vibes when you do, or someone comes forward and firmly says they do not want you choosing, or they want to change it again later just make sure you respect that and toss aside the name you chose.

Many of you are going to be more familiar with my OG blog @old-daemon-farts. I have found myself wanting a space connected to our system blog @the-sour-patch-crew. I rarely login to my original account, so this will make things easier.
I think the closest we have to this is that some of us have different clothing. Like — if we didn’t have specific accessories or outfits, some of us would be way more miserable and front less.
I think the funniest one of those is the two different packers we own. Gotta figure out our parts dick sizes.
Sometimes relationships between individual parts in partner systems are really funny. We have Jasper, a Persecutor. He’s capital D Damaged and is basically a physical representation of our abuse. He’s snappy and violent and holds grudges and basically just thinks everyone should stay away from him for their own good.
Then my partner has their singular syskid. This syskid is goofy and mischievous and generally just hilarious.
This child has decided that Jasper belongs to her. No idea why. Whenever Jasper is fronting, this kid will 100% of the time force herself to front. She doesn’t really let the rest of her system spend time with him because she wants all of it to herself 😂 Even though he’s made solid connections with a couple other people in their system. Taking bets on how long until she’s reprimanded.
You know Ashe and Holo would never scold the kid even though they both want time with Jasper. But, I would love to place bets on which one cracks first. 🤣
People talk about alters forming to compartmentalize memories and traumas. But like... it doesn't feel that way to us. If I look back at where I can recognize drastic differences in identity, it just feels like time stamps. Different "me"s. The most deviation before "Kit" existed was when I wanted to go by Chris and be called a boy when I was in second or third grade (pretty sure it was prior to the missing school years). Which, may have been system related or may just have been gender fuckery very early in my life. *shrugs*
This was another reason that prior to Ashe I had viewed all my headmates as endogenic or soulbonds. They didn't hold memories. Didn't keep traumas at bay. They were just here, existing and hanging out.
The kiddo, Nate, and the "Fox" are the most blatantly obvious remnants of those "time stamp" alters. They have an attachment to our body and our history. The others just don't have that same connection to the body.
Current members (all the introjects funny enough) seem to be centered around processing trauma. They don't hold memories, but they reflect the things revolving around our CPTSD. Their core "backstories" almost always have some foundation in something that has happened to us (even if greatly magnified out of proportion).
Anyway. I just don't relate to the classic example of system members being here because they took over to handle the bad memories. There was a reason maladaptive daydreaming WAS my big escape as a kid. Daydreaming was how I dealt with things, even though it was all a subconscious choice. I didn't know why I was constantly daydreaming, I just was.
