The Bog Myrtle (Myrica gale) is a deciduous shrub with rounded, dark green teethed leaves and smooth, reddish-brown bark. It sprouts yellow-orange or bright red catkins in the spring which later grow into thick clusters of small yellow-green nutlets. The Bog Myrtle is known for emitting a strong, sweet aroma from its leaves which act as a natural insect repellent.
