"There's something you're not telling me."
Cyrus stood silent, acting as if he hadn’t heard Pluto. It was shortly after the Galactic leader had held a small rally for the base, an occasional chore for him to boost the confidence of the organization in their goals. Though their leader’s speech had done it’s job as usual to get everyone excited, Pluto had picked up on some underlying tones he let slip, something their experience around him had trained them to become sensitive to.
The young commander waited a moment, studying the man for any subtle reaction as their Chatot tilted its head on their shoulder.
“...You’ve kept stuff from me before, but this time it’s different. What is it?”
“Nothing you need to be concerned about,” Cyrus stated, keeping his gaze ahead as the two carried on down the hallway.
“That’s what you always say! I’m used to you keeping secrets from me about the Team, I get it, I understand you need to do that every now and then, but something’s different this time! Something’s wrong, what is it?”
He stayed silent, ignoring them once again. They let out a huff, stepping in front of him and holding his arms to make him stop.
“Cyrus, just tell me what it is. If it’s something I shouldn’t know, just tell me now and I’ll drop it, but if it’s something bothering you, I want to help. You know you can trust me.”
He stared at them with a blank expression, the Commander unable to read their leader’s face for any insight into the thoughts he hid so well.
“...You should really keep your emotions in check, Nil,” Cyrus said, sending chills down Pluto’s spine as he smiled at them with the warm, forced grin he only put on for business meetings.
They loosened their grip enough for him to slip past them, making his way back towards his office silently as they watched him disappear around the corner.
