A genuine question for the spoonie community- do chronic migraines count as a disability? How often should you get them for the migraines to be labelled as "chronic"? I get them around once a month for a week straight, but they might also occasionally flair up when I'm stressed, tired, or if it's too hot/too cold/too windy.
I ask because my migraine problem seems to be getting worse as the years go on, and I went from suffering around 4 hours to a whole 12/14 hours. I used to take meds that kind of helped but they were so strong, they wrecked my stomach and I had to go to the hospital. I don't know what to do, and as time goes on and every single doctor I see tells me "there's really no cure" I'm afraid I may genuinely be stuck with a disability that's making my life progressively harder and harder to live
someone: wow having maddĀ must be so fun! you can create universes inside your head haha itās like youāre more creative
me, jumping around my room daydreaming about my paras embarking on terrifying and horrific adventures while i have an essay due tomorrow:
meeting other people with madd be like
Me when I come up with a new daydream scene and I'm in public:

hobbies: giving myself unnecessary anxiety
Light fall inĀ Fitzalan Chapel, Arundel Castle Grounds, Arundel
Whenever people try to give tips on madd and say like āavoid triggersā its so bizzare to me as someone who first noticed signs of their madd at like 9 years old. since I was so young I never āgrew out of the imaginary friend phaseā and I have a two different day dream modes, one where im fully immersed and seems to be the more common/talked about style but the other mode where its basically like a kid with an imaginary friend like im really never not day dreaming. Even if im with friends or shopping my paras are āthereā with me laughing at our jokes or looking at clothes with me. Its just such weird advice to avoid triggers when literally existing is my trigger
also with the āavoid triggersā thing like literally anything could set me of i could see a flower and iām like āoh my para would like thatā and then i want to daydream about them. or if i see any type of art itās like āi can make a daydream about thatā

Listen.
.
Daydreaming IS normal.
.
You know what's NOT normal?
.
Spending literal hours upon hours daydreaming, even entire days, forgetting to eat because of your daydreams, neglecting your family, friends, job and academic life for your daydreams, completely isolating yourself from reality, abandoning even your hobbies and things you enjoy doing, just so you can daydream.
Yes, the actual act of daydreaming is normal, like being anxious is normal or being a bit fastidious is normal. When is it NOT normal? When it becomes excessive, when it hinders you in your daily life, when you have no control over it; when anxiety turns into an anxiety disorder, when obession and paranoia turn into OCD. The exact same thing goes for daydreaming-it's called "maladaptive" for a reason.
TL;DR stop trying to convince people that their maladaptive habits that are destroying them and their life are "normal". They are people who need help, it is like any other disorder, inform yourself before saying something stupid you rock gremlins
you can never forget that moment when it clicked that youāre not the only one who daydreams excessively and thereās actually a name for it

Depression and Anxiety is like radiation. Thereās always a little bit of it in the background but not enough to kill you. Then once in a while you get a free trip to Chernobyl.
