Hi!
If this worked then its Friday the 20th of November 2020.
Is anyone here?
How are you?
I miss you.
- The Host.
This is the limit.
Let me set the scene, I’m at home, watching “WATCH THIS WITH THE LIGHTS OFF| Stories Untold - Chapter 1” and I am hard of hearing.
It’s not even 10 minutes in, and I have to stop watching it.
Would you like to hazard a guess why?
Someone who is doing the subtitles is adding their own side comments and in some cases are even missing out on HIS commentary.
I get that you want to add your own input, but that is what the comments section is for.
Yes we are eternally greatful for you transcribing the video so we can watch it but all of your work goes to waste when we can’t understand it.
With subtitles, you need to be able to read them quickly and smoothly with as little interruption as possible.
Things like (He giggles) is okay as it tells us what he’s doing, but things like (Oh god this is scary XD) when HE himself isn’t saying it can really throw us off.
Another issue is Zalgo text, I’ve said this many times but DO NOT use Zalgo text in your subtitles for anti. We cannot read it. There has been several cases in this video so far where they have added their own imput and it can get really confusing.
So please, please, please, do not make subtitles fun, they are for function not fun.
We are greatful for the work you do, it allows us to experience the wonders of youtube.
Sincerely,
-The Deaf, HoH, and non-English speakers of the YouTube community.
( @therealjacksepticeye I was wondering if you’d be able to speak out on this and make people aware? Sometimes they don’t know they’re doing it.)

I have been called selfish, problematic and faking it for attention because of this post. Do you see why we need some recognition. I have FRIENDS who think the subtitles are for jokes and if we are going to complain use the automated ones.
That defeats the purpose. They are there to help us.
I got, well, someone tried to argue with me. They said and I quote;
“ok listen here as none of us are actually deaf we shouldn’t be speaking for the people who /are/“
so clearly they were arguing without actually reading my post lmao.
And then this trump card;
“yeah, im salty bc none of their arguments are making sense. u got your damn subtitles stop complaining and enjoy what you’ve got you don’t need to know every single word everyone says”
Yes let me repeat that.
“You don’t need to know every single word everyone says”
Okay buddy, old pal, listen up.
THAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE SUBTITLES; TO KNOW WHAT PEOPLE SAID.
And they proceeded to talk about how since they didn’t need it no one did.
THIS

WHY
IT
NEEDS
TO
BE

OUT.

Yeah, I don’t know what this is about, specifically, but subtitles/captions are VERY IMPORTANT. Especially for me, having an auditory processing disorder, AND being HoH.

Please please please this doesn’t change just because I made a post about it everyone needs to see it. reblog it, scream it from the rooftops, screenshot and put it on insta and Twitter. Get everyone in the community to see it.

Tumblr culture is even ruining subtitles for the deaf/HOH now. Really. Why do people not understand why this is a problem?
Tumblr has ruined so much.

I would like to add that some people add slurs to the captions as well?? I know in one of mark’s videos at least someone added “laughs like a r****rd” and also “that sounds pretty gay….”
This is also a big issue @therealjacksepticeye

I sometimes use subtitles if I'm having a bad day hearing wise, or just to make it easier. I think the worst thing (for me personally) is having people put unreadable zalgo on it. It totally defies the point of subtitles and really annoys me.
